I too am hoping McDermott takes over defensive play calling. I'm not a big fan of McD, but we gotta try something in the short-term. But still, Bills won't field a decent defense until they get rid of this hybrid nickel base defense. This won't change unless McD is gone.

Their defense went from worst to well above average in 1 offseason and ours has been consistently bad against good QBs for almost a decade now.

I don’t even see how we really got exposed tbh…still moved the ball pretty easily outside of completely self inflicted and oftentimes ticky tack penalties. Just a couple silly uncharacteristic turnovers on top of that kinda felt like the universe balancing out that ravens win honestly lol

I'm a little worried about the division. The Pats schedule is - well, it's somethin'. At minimum, there is a very good chance they take the division lead at some point in the next 6 weeks. We absolutely have to win the rematch, which we should. But we have the Chiefs & Eagles - and they don't.

Taron Johnson and Christian Benford being very very average this year is masked by the absolute dumpster fire that Tre White has been.

Bills games with Shawn Hochuli as the head ref. Tonight vs the Pats - weirdly reffed game, you could argue a big reason the Bills entered halftime with only a FG. 7 accepted penalties on the Bills before Pats got their first. Very ticky tack stuff. Divisional vs Chiefs 2024 - Bills doubled Chiefs penalties and yardage, to be honest I don't really remember much about this game other than Bass' missed FG to tie vs Eagles 2023 - Bad intentional grounding call, AJ Brown fumble, horsecollar tackle. Just a terribly reffed game. vs Patriots 2022- Fairly average penalties, this was mostly a beat down vs Dolphins 2018 - 120 penalty yards on 13 penalties accepted vs Ravens 2018 - 100 penalty yards on 10 penalties accepted, this was a big blowout with Peterman He actually got a decent amount of press before the Chiefs divisional game with Bills fans calling him impartial and complaining he got assigned to that game including a NYTimes article (here), so I wouldn't be surprised if he kind of hates us. He had an almost 4 year gap between being assigned one of our games, and I hope that happens again. Just totally kills the flow, which will benefit the lesser team.

Geez. First time watching regular season games? I wouldn’t be surprised if Pats lose next week in NO.

I’m not a huge McDermott fan, but given the choice to have to retain one of McDermott or Beane, I‘m keeping McDermott 10/10 times

I mean anything is possible but I think they’d be more likely to score less points. The Coleman fumble could’ve potentially had a 5-6 minutes of clock difference not to mention it handed them an immediate 3 points.

Yep. Tre is a shell of himself. He was constantly 3 steps behind Diggs all night. Frankly, he's been subpar for most of this season. And I like the guy. But his playing sucks.

I understand the concern, but there's plenty of time left in the season. The defense is a real problem, however.

I agree....the best Defense is a lethal Offense. The Bills are missing a guy that can blow the top off of a defense...Shaheed is a guy that would put fear into the opposing defense, and force the Safeties to back up respecting the deep threat. As for the Bills defense, they need a healthy Oliver, and a healthy and productive Hairston......I think the injury to Dorian Strong was a low-key serious injury for the Bills D....would rather have him out there over Tre White at this point.

Is Diggs doing that against the NE Defense with Gonzalez and Davis? No. Hes still a nice WR, but doesn’t change anything for us. He cooked Tre and our zone coverage. Tre is washed.. Taron might be too and Benford has looked more like Carlton Banks than Carlton Davis so far this season.

Too bad he never brought this level of intensity against KC in the playoffs.

Agreed, why did they play it tonight?

I’m not saying we should or shouldn’t be dooming about kc necessarily but it’s disheartening. we’ve had the ball down 3 with one offensive drive to win the last two playoff matchups with them…do people really not think we can’t pull that kind of game off? The way it gets talked about here you’d think our defense gave up 100 points and we got blown out every time lol

There's nothing to wake up from We just got a little exposed by easily the best defense we've seen thus far. We're still a great team w out an identity outside Allen, still likely going to win the division and not the SB nothings changed except for the people who thought starting 4-0 was a sign of something different

I just can't comprehend how every team we play has receivers open by yards on more than half of the plays. Why can't our guys close in on open receivers entering their zone, instead of just waiting for them to catch it before reacting? I don't know if Josh has ever faced a Defense that leaves guys open as much as ours.

If this defense can do the bare minimum and hold teams under 30. I am confident the offense will win the majority of games. Turnovers killed team today. I do believe securing the #1 seed is critical for this team though with this defense. When Hairston and Strong are healthy, White shouldn’t see field again barring injury. For me I just want entire defense to be healthy come playoff time. Hopefully this L serves as wake up call for entire team.

Would Jordan Poyer’s age and loss of athleticism really outweigh his leadership and organization on defense? I’m not sure he’d be doing any worse than our current safeties. Our D-Linemen rarely make tackles on runs. They can’t be just tying up blockers when you’re only playing 2 LBs.

Yes, the fan whiteout is something a WNBA franchise would do, and we were rightfully punished for it.
