    • No. It is not performance enhancing. It's just a plant

What was the question again?

If a man was walking down the street with two fish hanging out of his mouth, how many pancakes can cover a doghouse?

Personally, I don't think these atheletes realize just how good they have it, and how much of a privilege it is to play in the NFL. Many of them make more in a year than many people will see in their lifetime.

Hell, if you told me you'd pay me a million dollars a year, I would avoid ANYTHING you told me to! I don't give a damn WHAT it was!

before looking at the poll...I didn't realize how many deluded pot smokers we have on this board. Sure sign of a pothead..."It never hurt me". Sad.

so what's your excuse for being a snob? You cali people are supposed to be with it.

i don't like your reasons. how about let us supply our own reasons. i vote NO on smoking weed, not because i have a moral issue with it, but because it is incongruent with being an athlete.

It's a natural plant. A thing of God. God put all things on earth for a reason.

Who am I to judge the will of God.

Morality issues? Say what? Morality is how you behave. Morality in how you treat other people.

Is being a drunk and beating the snot out of people being moral? I have seen 10 times more drunks causing trouble than I have pot smokers.

I finally answered this question, however I really believe this is strictly a yes or no answer. I voted yes, because the player has to have some accountability for his actions/decisions. Yes, just a plant is way to vague for my tastes. I was once a pot head, but I now choose to abuse a different drug of choice. Whilst being a pot smoker, I was capable of going through the motions of day to day life, but it was too easy to just sit back, roll up a joint and smoke it and easily blame my actions on being wasted; pro athletes can not do what I did and perform at a high level.

One poster said that if the player smoked before the game, the pregame workout would make him ready and focused to play the game. I don't believe that to be the case.

Correction... What I meant to relate was that the excersize and the few hours passing his buzz would surely wear off.

When I got a buzz on and I was busting hump physically, the buzz wore off sooner.

And for me a typical buzz only lasts 2 to 3 hours. I only take a few hits, smoking doobie after doobie was a actions of a very young adult.

Ive been to jail for smoking weed....you don't know at all what you're talking about. I agree with the previous poster, if the law is bull sh-- I'm not going to obey it and when I get caught I'm going to B word about it. Your belief that you shouldn't cry if you knowingly break the law and get caught is the way meek and obedient people live their lives - sorry for you.

How impressive that you went to jail for smoking weed! Wow, what a thing to be proud of!

So, how was it being obedient to the guards in jail? I mean, telling you when you can go inside, outside, eat, sleep, etc. That obedience must have been wonderful for such a rebel.

So was smoking weed worth the jail time? Was it easy to provide for your family while in jail? Did you make good friends there? Did the experience make you a better person?

There's a difference between jail and prison...you're making it sound like he was in prison. He was probably in a holding cell for a day or something.

I highly doubt you went to jail for just smoking a joint. What is the rest of the story Grip? You can call me meek and obedient if you like, but I clearly said if you break the law just take your medicine and shut up. It's called being a man and responsible for your actions. Something that is lost on todays society.

I spent a night in jail even though I was absolutely innocent of anything (other than having a faulty rear turn signal). It was the only time I have ever been arrested, and one of the few times in my life I have actually been absolutely innocent of any truly arrestable offense. I was completely cooperative with the officers (one of whom was a total douchebag rookie, trying to rile me up).

With that said, I probably should have been arrested on any number of occasions, and because of my cooperative manner, I was given a warning and let go.

My point is, while it might seem unlikely that one could go to jail for simply smoking a joint, it is entirely possible. It also probably depends on when this occurred, where it occurred and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

That is a brutal story, Dean. Did they ever try to justify the arrest for you? WTF! At least you seem to have a winning record when it comes to illegal activity. I agree that location is everything with the smoking. You aren't likely to get arrested smoking a joint at home. If your smoking out in public, you are almost taunting the cops to do something.

Such an easy answer, how can the NFL allow its players to conduct Illegal activities, they cant. Do I care if they smoke? That is not my decision

It's not allowing it - it's just not testing for it. Then the government decides what to do if you're caught, like anything else illegal.

A few other thoughts:

I absolutely could care less what the players do as long as it doesn't get them suspended or isn't morally wrong (ex. Vick). I don't feel that weed is morally wrong. Take the suspended issue off the table and I could care less. I can see the NFL's point, however, because the players ARE role models, whether they should be or not. Testing for it would most likely deter some of the would-be smokers and try to preserve the game as "family friendly".

It reminds me of the NBA dress code. They had to implement that because they were losing a core audience of 35-55 year old white males who couldn't relate to Allen Iverson showing up a press conferences with his hat sideways and a possee. By lessening the pot issue, they can expand and retain their exisiting fan base and most importantly the corporate sponsors. As much as I don't like the rule, it makes sense.

Exactly!

As for me, they couldn't justify the arrest. They told me when they arrested me I could go, if I just told them something about someone else (who I didn't really know), but if I didn't they would see to it that I spent the night in jail. I didn't have any info to give them, and they didn't believe me. The guy they were interested in was a dishwasher at the Casino, where I had worked before. I saw him waling down the street. He waived me down and asked for a ride home. I knew him from work, but I didn't really know him well at all. They let me sit for hours before processing me, and letting me call a lawyer (all the while telling me if I talked, I could go). I thought it was funny that, if I lied and made something up, I could leave...but the truth (which was that I really had no info) was keeping me detained.

They booked and released several belligerent drunks, before getting to me, to make sure it was too late to get bailed out. I was released with no bail the next day, and charges were quickly dropped.

I'm Sicilian, what do you think? We have a long standing code of silence.

Honestly, it depends on the situation. In this case, had I known what this guy was doing (dealing crack), I might have talked as that s#it is helping send the Falls into the crapper, and I didn't really know him, or anything. Had he been involved in something violent, I would most likely talk, as that is what a good citizen does.

Screw code of silence to quote the boon docks I am not going to get but raped just so you can deal crack. Everyone is always like snitches get stitches but almost everyone would snitch if it meant them not going to jail. There is almost no one I wouldn't snitch on just to escape any serious jail time. Very few people keep that code of silence only the most deeply involved organized crime guys keep that.
