I wish senile ol' Ralph had the balls to let his men cheat, then maybe we could celebrate a SB here. I'll take one anyway we can get one right about now. KC will find that out when Matt turns back into a pumpkin. The Pats* do did what they always do...they came out on top. They got a 2nd rounder for a backup QB and washed-up LB. The documentation that the Patriots could have gotten more for Cassel is very strong. However, nothing anyone did is illegal, unlawful, or incorrect. No one here is bound by any rules that would make the Patriots accept more and the Chiefs to give up more in the trade. It might be interesting to talk about but from the standpoint of league action or hysterics like Jay Mariotti calling for an investigation, this is a non-issue. No one bent any rules because there's no rules saying what you have to accept in a trade. Nothing will come of this except a lot of talk by fans. They could've gotten more? Well, that's their own business. Makes sense that they didn't want to do a trade with Denver/TB b/c they might've felt Cassell could be a good QB in the system that McDaniel sets up, with a history of good (tho dirty) OL play and many of the building blocks in place already. Or, rather, they don't want to take the risk that he might be, b/c Denver with a capable QB presents a big threat in the AFC. They traded him to KC, where the recovery program from Herm et al. is probably going to take a while even with Midas-touch Pioli and where Haley might be in over his head. Taking the 2nd rounder was a much better deal financially for the Pats too given the #3 pick in the draft would be getting paid more than Brady and the Pats dont like paying out that kind of money for even established players... That is what league commissioners are supposed to do. Bowie Kuhn in baseball, for example vacated a bunch of deals back when Charlie Finley was selling off Oakland players.... The only !@#$ups here, are the broncos who wanted to blow up their team this close to the draft. They get nothing, and have a coach who hates his qb. A qb awho hates his coach, who are completely unsure of the direction they're going in. A wr who keeps getting in trouble, and a very odd free agency period. PTR Cassell couldn't get the best team in the league to the playoffs and Vrabel is old. KC gave up a near first round pick....the Pats pulled one off again. He gets accused of cheating because he "accepted less as a favour to a friend." Had he "accepted more as a favour from a friend" he would have been accused of cheating still. Some people need to stop worrying that the Pats are cheaters and accept that they do whatever required in order to win and do it better than any other organization out there.
