Sean apologists... If McD gets fired without ever winning a Super Bowl, you will...

  1. 1. What will Sean applogists do when he is fired from Buffalo without ever winning a SB?

    • Finally eat crow and understand he wasted the career of the Greatest Bill of All Time with his weak defense, bad gameplans, and major in-game mistakes
    • Be just as bummed as everyone, but think it wasnt his fault and he just needed a couple more lucky breaks and he couldve done it
    • I'm happy with our handful of Division championships and nothing else to show from finally hitting the lottery on a Franchise QB and Greatest Bill of All Time

Ok the framing of the poll is terrible

Look, I am plenty critical of McDermott. I think his welcome is wearing thin. If he's gone because the Pegulas think we need a new approach to get us over the hump I will not shed any tears.

But he would absolutely be snapped up by some team in some capacity if he was fired. He can get an average defense out of practice squad parts.

Do you know who had a reputation for bad time management? Andy Reid. Eagles fans would not shut up about it as his tenure ended and he didn't have the best rep with Alex Smith. But he got the rings so no one cares.

The Pegula stuff is speculation, obviously, but I have seen several Bills fans here and elsewhere say that they are happy with just making the playoffs and having a shot each year. No real desire to try to win the Super Bowl because they are "enjoying the ride" of having a good team.

Yeah, and to be clear, I almost dont fault Terry. It's waaaayy easier for us fans to sit here and yell about firing people and rebuilding the entire organization. It's much different to actually do it. And from an Owner's Perspective, I'd rather have an owner that errs to a Steelers/Ravens mindset rather than a Jets/Cowboys mindset.

However, I am a fan and not an owner, and I've seen enough!

Yeah, right.

Ben Johnson is the only Head Coach Hire in the past 5 years I'd take over Sean.  Maybe Sean Payton, however I'm not sure Allen and his scheme would mesh incredibly well.

Allen winning his MVP saved McD's seat last year, and frankly cost them a shot at Johnson.  It's the name of the game.

I dont see any great candidates out there right now, so I dont think I'd be thrilled to move on from Sean.

Johnson, Payton, Jim Harbaugh, Mike Vrabel. All should have been considered.

Agreed that there isnt any big name left right now. Best we could do is probably Clint Kubiak, which would be a similar risk as Ben Johnson.

not a McD apologist - hardly at all. wanted him gone after 13 seconds.

but McD isn't going anywhere unless we completely flop. the Sabres will clean house and Terry having to clean two houses is just far fetched.

You have McDaniel on there twice.

Pederson won a SB with a lesser QB. Jacksonville just sucks as an org.

No one wants a Saleh or Eberflus. This isnt a bottom-tier job. This is the best opportunity candidates have ever seen.

Eberflus and saleh were absolute stud coordinators, as was McDaniel. Why are you so sure we would hire the next Ben Johnson? you really want to turn the entire organization over to a guy like Kingsbury, who i expect will be one of the hottest coaches this cycle? why would he suddenly succeed?

I mentioned this before, but I wonder if Kim were healthy would Sean and Brandon still have jobs. She was the driving force behind buying the Bills. She is a die-hard Bills fan more so than Terry who was more of a hockey guy. I don't think these playoff losses and falling short every year with 17 would sit well with her.

No arguments by me. This was mostly a half-joking response to the other thread.

Again, agreed. McD would be snapped up by some bottom-dweller and he would likely return them to relevancy.

That's kinda the point tho. That is his sweet spot. Not winning championships.

As the saying goes "McDermott is the type of coach that can get a 3-14 team to the Wild Card. And the type of HC that will take a 14-3 team to the Wild Card"

Knowing our luck, he would probably end up with the Dolphins. McDaniel is probably getting canned after the season. IMHO.

That's okay..........McD's defense doesn't scare me.

Yeah, Miami and the Jets would be lucky to land him. I always saw him going back to Carolina and returning them to relevancy in that Division.

Wow, and I was a LAMP posting, anti McBeane crusader😂😂😂( Zero shots at the OP, I agree with the sentiment)

As a non apologist, how do I see the results without voting?

If EVER there was a year, this is it and after the “ Non rebuild rebuild” this is the worst team they have trotted out and anything can still happen which is kind of insane. Take any of the last four years teams, and we are probably 1 or 2 in odds to win it all at this point.

I also dont think he, or any coach really, can overcome the "South Beach Lifestyle" issue that plagues the Dolphins.

I think you undersell McD as a coordinator and head coach.

i think the best argument for replacing him is sometimes you just need some new blood, and the pairing of an offensive HC/defensive retread coordinator seems to be the most successful recent trend in the NFL.

The Jets have won three out of their last five. Granted they are going nowhere this year, but they are playing hard for Glenn. The players seem to have bought in to what the CS wants to do as far as changing the culture. I would be surprised if Glenn gets fired after one year. McDaniel with the Dolphins is another story.

I dont think I under or over sell him, I just sell him

He's a decent coordinator, and a coach capable of rebuilding a bad culture.

He isnt a championship caliber head coach tho.

Agreed on the best argument part. After a decade, if you havent gotten it done, the message grows stale.

I just meant those type of teams. Not that it was actually going to happen. McD wont be fired this year anyways.

I dont think he gets fired this year, so that isnt the question.

Terry and many folks here seem to be happy sitting on a nice Regular Season win/loss record, and some AFC East Championships (although those days seem to be over now that there's a better HC in the Division).

When we go another few years of this garbage, and Josh has officially entered the end of his career, how happy will you McD Apologists be with nothing to show for it all?

I think you should name who you think the McD apologists are. There can be more than two camps here, it’s not just apologists and whiners. There is a broad spectrum, so this label stuff doesn’t sit well with me. But I can’t say I’m surprised.

I am generally a fan of continuity when a team has been relatively successful, but I am also forward looking.  If or when McDermitt gets fired, I would look with interest at the new regime and hope he can bring home the Lombardi.
