What historical characterizations are you referring to?  As for cinematography, most of his series are still photos or maps and such. They aren’t action films.

I’m a few hours into this series. Seems well done and gives a much greater understanding of the events of the time. It’s interesting how the events impacted both the Native Americans and African slaves.  About 5000 free slaves fought with the continental army. In Virginia, many slaves ran away to British boats as they were given the promise of freedom by the Brits. The British used the men for an Ethiopian regiment. The Declaration of Independence was embraced by those who weren’t truly free as they hoped for a better future. Hard to see how any of this is objectionable to anyone.

I've watched Ep 1. It was good. I learned some things, took a moment to rethink some things. 

Well worth watching the whole thing.

One theme that emerges over and over again is that power should lie with legislators. Not the governor or chief executive. And that all men are equal. None above the law. 
 

Sort of the direct opposite of Trump 

If you approach a series like this objectively, it can be entertaining and enlightening. Still, it’s a story told by a storyteller.  What’s the “true patriot” part about all this?

It all boils down to this for the left:

That said, @ryangrim, the post isn’t about the validity, to whatever degree, of the things Ken Burns decided to include in the opening of the documentary.

 

It’s about propaganda, which is always built around lies, half truths and truth, all carefully interwoven to create a narrative.

 

Propaganda works by controlling the lens through which we see things.

And for Ken Burns to frame the American Revolution in this way, right from the start, sets the stage for how the viewer interprets everything that comes after.

 

So for example, the smallest amount of truth, like “the Iroquois had a confederacy” morphs into “it was used as a model for America” while leaving out the more important structural influences, including the very system of government used by Britain at the time.

 

Or “Ben Franklin referenced the Iroquois in his writings” becomes “influenced,” while leaving out the far more influential thinkers that had an impact on all the founders.

 

This combination of lies, half truths, truth, along with deliberate omissions, especially at the start of the documentary, are what make this propaganda.

And so not to derail this thread, I have to agree.  People are quick dismissing this work based on someone else’s opinions.  I doubt nursesclothing even read what he’s agreeing with.  This is the same group that couldn’t bring themselves to watch the new Superman movie.  Everything is an issue. 

It’s soooo stupid because I watched some and there to think there is a theme of “white man bad” is such a reach…it’s not even worth responding to. How effing maga can take a show that shows the progress to freedom…everything the “think” they are for and diss it….because PBS….just shows how hollow they really are.
