The Dolphins and the Jets had Beane and his entire staff on the phone 24 hours a day for several days leading up to the trade deadline to prevent them from trading with anyone else. Definitely can’t blame Beane for that. The only thing I fault Beane on was not addressing the WR1 position this offseason. But I can see why he didnt. I mean Josh did win the MVP with this same group of guys last season. Only difference now Josh isn’t play as well and he's back to turning the ball over. 
 

Going after Waddle I think he knows the error he made and I fully expect him to pull a Diggs type move this offseason for a WR1 because the Keon Coleman experiment has not worked and I think he was banking on him to step up.

Are you asking me a question? I have no clue what actually happened but the way it's coming off from what I'm reading and hearing is that Beane went hard after Waddle and Williams and spent most of his time with those teams waiting to hear from them and missed out on players like Shaheed, whether or not that's the truth I have no idea if you have heard something else please feel free to let me know.

I just think that's a ridiculous assumption that he sat in his office focused on two players to the extent that it prevented him from discussing deals with other teams. It's simple logic. Those guys are usually in the office 7 days a week this time of year. Your gonna sit here and tell me Beane talked to two teams and spent the rest of the time just staring at the phone waiting for a call back. He or nobody on his staff talked to any other team? Really?

Weird sort of argument to make. You are clearly right, i think Beane could have made more than 2 phone calls. I suspect he did to be fair

 

But its also fairly obvious that he got stuck up enough on this possibility that he ran out of time on the other possible deals or came up short on his other offers because he preferred this possible deal. Weeks before this, fan board fans managed to conclude the Jets and Dolphins wouldn't trade with the Bills - so its not that surprising that fans are flabbergasted he was wasting his time on this rather than other deals. He did get played, he wasted his time on deals that didnt come off - and that even fans could see weren't going to happen.

You don't want to get forced into acting out of desperation but that's the position Beane put himself in by failing to address the obvious WR problem, with the exception of Coleman, in the past couple drafts. 

By contrast look at what the Eagles did by getting Phillips as a cheap rental for a 3rd.  A 3rd they can get back as a supplemental pick if he signs a big free agent contract elsewhere. That's top-shelf GM  work.

If the team plays the remainder of the season like they did on Sunday that could be something like a 1st round pick between 14 and 20. I might be alone here but picking that high would be better for the long term than getting into the playoffs only to get bounced out in the wildcard round.

I don't think he was sitting around waiting for a phone call, I think he called around about all of those WR but he clearly focused on Waddle and Williams or at least that's what he put out to the media because several of the big name anylysts/reporters have reported it so maybe I'm wording something wrong I'm not sure because I never said he never talked to any other team I just think his main focus was on those 2 and in focusing on them lost out on the others maybe that is better wording?

I think its highly likely the Bills leaked the information to try and get sympathy from their fans.   "Oh look at least they tried!"    The issue I take with that is the Bills have Beane, two assistant GMs, and a Pro Personnel Advisor in their front office.    They are a well-staffed, highly paid group of football professionals.    They had from October 13th when they lost to Atlanta and it was obvious they needed to make a move at WR, until November 4th at 4pm to get a deal in place.  I appreciate they went big game hunting, but this team had over 21 days to make a move.    They had draft picks, plenty of resources in the front office, and the backing of the owner to spend millions of dollars on a player beyond this year.   Bottom line is they failed.   

 

Brandon Beane seems like the type of guy it'd be cool to golf or get a beer with, but he is arrogant as hell and it impacts his job.    More than once he's become defensive about fan or radio host opinions about what the football team needs.   He says stuff like "this isnt fantasy football" which is essentially him telling the moron fans that he knows more than they do.   The fact is he likely does.   But when Joe Six Pack in Cheektowaga knows you need a WR, and you tell him he doesnt know football, and Joe ends up right, maybe humble yourself a bit. 

 

Beane is famous for pounding the podium and getting emotional about the city of Buffalo and Bills fans.   Thats great.   That said, when you alienate your fans.  When you yell at radio hosts for being stupid.  You're the bully.    Beane's life path may have led him to a football front office.   But there are fans who have lived and died with this team for 30, 40, 50, even 60 years.   Guys that shell out thousands of dollars for tickets, parking, and whatever new goofy jersey you happen to be selling for $150 dollars this year while making manufacturing job wages.  So when you completely fail at your job while making millions, maybe do better than "this isnt fantasy football" or "It takes two to tango."    Bills' fans are not stupid.  None of us should feel bad for you when you try and blame the Dolphins or Jets for your failures.   It just proves they arent as clueless as you were when you decided to make the Chiefs better. 

 

Next time you decide to pound a podium, take a minute and understand you don't speak for us.   You've lost that right.  Because when you go back to North Carolina with your millions, and the Bills are a distant memory for you, we will still be here.   Your job is to go after a Super Bowl every year, not make excuses for why you cant.
