I don't think the Bills did near as much for Allen in year 2 as NE has done for Maye.

I do agree that we have replaced those productive WR's with increasingly ineffective receivers.

Allen's second year is when we brought in Brown and Beasley. I would compare this years version of Diggs and what he's done in NE this far this season to Brown when we brought him in. They also had Knox who many thought was on the verge of breaking out. And we had Isiah McKenzie in his gadget years.

Diggs is gonna be closer to what peak Beasley was as this season carries on, providing a reliable possession option who gets quick separation. Very QB friendly.

John Brown in Buffalo was a boundary dude who could burn. He was dangerous when isolated. And they had chemistry, no doubt. But Allen also was MONEY going to Beas in the slot and even red zone. They complemented each other nicely, and then once the real #1 Diggs was acquired in his prime, the trio (with Gabe Davis as the 4th) did damage. Those passing performances in the 2021 season playoffs were historic. (And broke so many of our brains in the process.)

Effectively we have two issues; player deficiencies and less than 2 mil in cap space to play with. You are likely looking at giving at least a 2nd for a player because you’d need to send Samuel the other way.

Thats a positive IMO.  I hate it, I like what he is capable of when healthy on the field.... but he never is.  If someone else will take his contract, send us someone we need, and only wants a bump in compensation, than that makes it that much more appealing to me!

Relevant Bills notes:

Quote

Teams asking about Jaylen Waddle have been flatly told no.

Quote

The Saints’ receivers have been the subject of a lot of talk. New Orleans has received calls on Chris Olave, but the team has shown more interest in extending him than dealing him away. Rashid Shaheed, a burner who’s only 27 and in a contract year, has drawn calls ,too, but the asking price of a Day 2 pick has scared teams away to this point.

Quote

Jakobi Meyers’s name has been floating around for a while, but that’s another spot where the Raiders lack depth. There haven’t been many calls on him, either. With his deal up, he could bring more in a 2027 comp pick than a ’25 trade.

Quote

As the Chiefs’ outlook has been impacted by a recent injury, the Bills’ approach has been, too, with Ed Oliver down until the playoffs. Buffalo’s taking a hard look at what’s out there at defensive tackle, and has also kicked the tires on its options at receiver.

Regarding Calais Campbell, we're going around in circles.

Per the reporting of others he didn't want to come to Buffalo previously. It's believed that if traded he would choose not to report.

It would be good to review a chronology of the weeks before last year's trading deadline but I'm guessing that most trades will happen after the week 9 games... when the buyers and sellers situation is made more clear.

He's carrying on like some sort of King... making up his own rules and defying others to challenge him!

There is no reason for any selling team not to run it all the way up to the deadline. I know we all want action NOW, but the team with the player holds all the cards and will attempt to get a bidding war going to maximize value.

See it from his old-a$$ POV. If he stays in Arizona, he still gets paid and he only has to play outside in the cold once (12/28 in Cincinnati).
