The return of the "tush push"........

Instead of running jet sweeps to Knox or Elijah Moore on short yardage plays, the Bills had the genius idea of going back to the play that has been money for them the past few years....the tush push.

 

The Bills ran the play 3 times, and it would have worked all three times, if not for a formation penalty on one of the attempts.

 

I never understood why the Bills shied away from using the play this year, but I am glad they came to their senses and reintroduced it to the Offensive game plan.

Probably had something to do with voting against the tush push being a legal play and being a hypocrite. Just saying...

I always liked the tush push. It got shut down in that chiefs playoff game and in a few plays earlier this year.

 

But I still think on 3rd and short it's by far their best chance to get the 1st

Smartest adjustment we made during the bye week.

 

Dumbest adjustment we made all off-season was convincing ourselves the Chiefs broke the Tush Push just cause they stopped it a few times in the playoffs (including one they didn’t technically “stop” in the first place)

 

If anything, make a small adjustment to the most effective short yardage play you’ve ever had as opposed to removing it entirely

It's a lot easier to execute a successful tush push when Chris Jones isn't on the D Line.

It's consistent with the Bills lode managing Allen.  Their lack of success in critical short yardage situations this season forced them to bring the play back sooner then I suspect they wanted to.  

 

At the risk of beating a dead horse what we're seeing is entirely by design and the resulting awkwardness is the players adjusting and the fact that this offensive approach will always seem a bit herky - jerky.

Because it did not work 3 straight times against the Chiefs in the AFCC

The Bye was a reset of going back to basics in many ways.

 

And unsurprisingly, the basics worked pretty freaking well just like they almost always do with this team when they execute them properly.
