I'd be open to anyone outside of building to change this defensive philosophy.

I don't think McDermott will, as defence is his "baby", but clearly it's never good enough and it needs a different set of eyes

Would you try to get him as new dc, if our defense doesn't get better for next season?

I don't think so.  There's nothing in his resume that suggests he'd be an improvement over Babich.   His years as DC in New England were in the shadow of Belichick who we all know pretty much ran the show there.  He failed as a HC in Detroit.  He was "Senior Defensive Assistant" on the 2023 Eagles team that played lost 5 of 6 games down the stretch and got smoked by the Bucs in the wild card round (32-9).

Why am I not surprised that you would be "open to anyone outside of building to change this defensive philosophy"?    Well,  you're doomed to disappointment. Terry Pegula isn't so stupid as to fire McDermott even if the Bills fail to make the Super Bowl again, and the defensive philosophy isn't changing until the Bills get a new HC.

Not sure you can get him to leave for a DC job. He has one of the highest profile coordinator jobs in football. He is likely making more than Babich is now. He’s also in line for a big raise. It’s not realistic IMO despite what Chip Kelly just did. I guess if you want to pay Patricia $6M maybe.

I think you need to read my post again bud

1. I never once said the bills are firing McDermott

2. In my post I literally said McDermott probably would not hire outside of building on the defensive side

We good? Lol

What am I missing here? Isn’t Patricia a proven failure in the NFL with a reputation for alienating players, from a coaching tree that has produced no successes?

He didn’t work as HC. Right now, he might be considered the best defensive mind in football. He’s certainly doing a job than anyone else on that side of the ball right now.

As a courtesy to the other board members, please use more descriptive topic titles. A single name if far too vague to post as a title and provides little insight into what specifically the post is talking about. The topic starter can edit the topic title line to make it more appropriate.

Thank you.

I am just really skeptical of any bellichick discipline or anyone whose success is at Ohio State.  Easy to look good with a $10M defense. Their former coordinators don’t seem to do well elsewhere either.

Fair. They are playing such a complex system right now. They lost tons of guys and actually got better. They are locking teams up. As a coordinator I think he’s elite. He may not leave OSU anytime soon though. It’s just a perfect fit.
