By all accounts from her classmates until she disenrolled from school she was quite popular. She was a tall cute blonde, of course she was. Sure, I get it she's capitalizing on an image. But it's hypocrisy. It's no different than lizzo who body shames people and now is getting surgery to look better and on ozempic to cut her weight. Taylor also got surgery, pretty funny for a woman who is supposed to be all about being your natural self. And then she talks about how she grew up middle class, when she was a rich girl. No different than kid Rock who talks about growing up and knowing the common Man struggle. But he grew up with parents who owned a car dealership in upper middle class at the very least in the suburbs of detroit. Taylor Swift is about as fake as can be

Great post, describes why I can’t stand popular modern music. It’s created using a cult leader mindset of producing catnip for the masses. There’s no individual artistic expression, it just regurgitates thoughts of the fanbase. I’m old enough to remember when bands released albums the fanbase hated, because they followed their heart. Almost every act had these albums, Swift never will because it’s so carefully crafted.

That’s fair, but this isn’t a case of “those who can’t criticize those who can”. It’s just musical taste being very subjective. As a music nerd it bums me out that Swift is seen as the pinnacle of musical talent in 2025.

It has always been that way... Ever see how Paul McCartney bangs out a song.

 

It was online for a while, how "Get Back" was made... McCartney was even pissed Harrison showed up late, then right to business popping out the song.

 

I don't really like the process anymore than you do... But some good music is made.

I fully agree but it isn't  her fault. She is just a lucky young woman with a certain amount of talent (I'm not sure how much because I don't know one of her songs) who came along at the right time.

 

My daughter and her husband flew to Scotland to see one of her concerts. I don't understand this. If Jerry Garcia was alive and healthy, I would not fly to Scotland to see the Grateful Dead even if I was as rich as Bezos, and I'm a big Dead Fan. They were able to afford this trip but it makes no sense to me. Then again, I went to Alabama for a football game and it cost me a few thousand and my wife gets Amazon deliveries every day, so I suppose I'm a hypocrite.

Thirty years ago, I took time off work, stood in line for two hours on a cold, windy day in Albany NY to get a bracelet that let me come back two days later and stand in line for three hours on an only slightly less frigid day to spend a small fortune (at the time) on 4 nose-bleed tickets to see Garth Brooks.   I wouldn't stand in line to see Taylor Swift only because I'm old and don't go to concerts (or sporting events) because it's way too much trouble.

I got some Sahlen’s dogs at the grocery store recently and they were not what I remembered, even from just a few years ago. It was the first time I was ever disappointed with them.  Coulda’ been a bad day/batch, but I’m in no hurry to try again.

Agree, it seems to be of late, bland and casings tough. Wife now has to peel the submucosa off for grandkids and me.

There was something about the taste that just wasn’t….the same or right or something. Maybe it was my expectations, but I’ll hit Ted’s next week and see if I become inspired.

Assuming this was her most recent tour, your daughter went to the most popular, greatest  performance tour in our lifetime. I’m sure they enjoyed.

Sure the revenue was there but it is subjective.

 

Quantity doesn't equal quality. As a tour, sure it was huge and popular. It was a masterful performance. She can put on a helluva show and I remember back almost 10-12 years ago when I wouldn't back down to @Buftex about her talent and career to exceed Beyonce saying she has more talent (she does, her art is far more popular). But, by individual accounts it's all subjective. Her tour was ginormous but doesn't mean it was the best.
