Yeah like trump never misspeaks, but now what he says we're gonna take as concrete. Sure.

Too much time at the Rathskeller It’s largely about the rare earths. I’ve been trying my best all day to work thru the details for you that aren’t really public yet. But it appears we are trying to position ourselves to not be held hostage by China’s CURRENT dominance on REE. But that’s changing. China has a lot to lose here to, as other countries begin to enter the market. This is the best source I’ve found on that and how over the last 20 years China has repeatedly used their dominance of REE to wield as a hammer: https://chinapower.csis.org/china-rare-earths/#:~:text=Terbium%2C which is significantly more, sonar systems and television screens. This is a big deal: I’m reading this as China knows the U.S. can begin to get the REE elsewhere - over the next 1, 5, 10 years this will happen. China has leverage now but in the long run they are going to lose it. Plus, we’re keeping the tariffs on Chinese goods. This is good for American companies and jobs. The Frankish Reich Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago 2 hours ago, Roundybout said: I appreciate this. Yes, the WSJ is doing the best reporting on this now. On the opinion side of that same newspaper, this also strikes me as accurate: https://www.wsj.com/opinion/china-trade-talks-donald-trump-tariffs-f730f437?mod=hp_opin_pos_1 Developing an alternative supply will take years and require cooperation with allies because the U.S. can’t produce and process all the rare earths it needs. Japan has pitched a rare-earths alliance as part of tariff negotiations, and the Administration would be wise to expand such a partnership with other allies. This gets to the larger problem with Mr. Trump’s tariff strategy—that is, he doesn’t have one. His latest walk-back shows he can’t bully China as he tried to do in his first term. China has leverage of its own. A smarter trade strategy would be to work with allies as a united front to counter China’s predatory trade practices. Instead, Mr. Trump has used tariffs as an economic scatter-gun against friends as well as foes. This increases China’s leverage, and, like this week’s trade truce, that’s nothing to cheer about.

Homelander Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago 143 days since Day 1, 23 days left in the tariff pause - and the total number of trade deals so far? Zero. Impressive work, MAGA.
