Wow I would give my left nut just to have one season end with the Buffalo Bills as Super Bowl Champions. I'd be fully content that it never happens again. Just one before before I die

I've attended an orchiectomy, and trust me on something.  A Lombardi for the Bills isn't worth it.  Be grateful for that little intact package you have.

Because everything else is meaningless without a title. That’s the nature of team sports.

If that is indeed the case, why do you watch the games (assuming yoh do)? They are meaningless unless the team is in the superbowl.

I get it, we all want a SB title. I even mentioned that I hope this success leads to at least one title.

But, why does every good thing they do get negated with “doesn’t mean much, no title”.

With the examples I’m about to list, please know I’m not saying you’ve said all of these, I’m just giving examples:

-Five straight AFCE titles - “Yeah, but, no titles”

-McD best winning percentage coach in Bills history - “Doesn’t mean much”

-JA NFL MVP - “Yeah, but no ring”

-Highest scoring offense and fewest points allowed defense over five years - “Doesn’t mean anything”

I want a title just as much as the next Bills fan, but it doesn’t mean there’s been no good things that have happened and that this team hasn’t had a great run. There’s still things to celebrate.

If everything is based on a title no sports franchise is successful because everyone has way more years without titles than they do with titles.

We all want a title, but it’s still been a great five years for the Bills and our fan base.

Go Bills!

Good one, Doc. Thanks for laying down the ground rules! 😃🤣

It’s a shame that some people seem to be missing what is and should continue to be a historic run.  We all want to see this team cement its legacy with a championship.  That may or may not happen, but I am enjoying the hell out of this ride.

Peoples interpretation and definitions of those two words determine perception.  The charger’s team of Philip rivers and Lt. for example. To chargers fans that team was historic for a few years. In the annals of nfl history not to much.  Just another great team with great players, who couldn’t get over the hump. Philip Rivers had 8 pro bowl selections.  I think Josh is way better than him. To have never appeared in at least a superbowl is underwhelming to say the least. Especially when Josh’s playoff stats are other worldly. Maybe this year they get over the hump. More optimistic about this team, than any team since the “historic” team of the 90’s.

Those Chargers teams did win 5 division titles in a row but one of those was an 8-8 year. It was a good run. They were not as good as these Bills teams with the exception of the 2006 team which shouls have won the Superbowl.

619, thank you for sharing and these accomplishments do matter.  These arguments that everything is meaningless without a title is silly.  Sure, the OP even states he wants a title like the rest of us.  I guess some have such a lack of gratitude for what we have done, they magically forget 17 years of languishing in misery.  Also the mid 80’s where we were winning 2-3 games a season.  I’m 57 amd I remember all of the agony and humiliation of admitting to people from other areas being a Bills fan.

I pray during football season each morning along with prayers for my family and dear friends that we finally win the big one.  I pray, but understand those who choose not to do so as that is their prerogative.

Go Bills!

Spot on, MGK. Good to hear from you!

Yup, while we all want a title, this has been a great half decade of Bills football that we can appreciate. And, hopefully their continued success will produce a Lombardi.

While every fan has their own personality and opinion, some of the comments are strange. You’d think you’d be hearing comments like these from other fanbases as they try to argue why their team is better or why the Bills aren’t that good, not from actual Bills fans.

Hope you have a great summer. Go Bills!

Yeah sure. Maybe from players and coaches standpoint. But from a fan’s perspective that’s all that matters. If any fan say it isn’t then they’re either lying or rooting for interests other than winning.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

While a title is the ultimate goal, it doesn’t mean that fans can’t appreciate when their team or an individual on the team do good/great things.

Like I mentioned upthread, my college basketball team has won five NCAA Championships. There’s still other good/great things they’ve done (team or individual) to appreciate besides the titles.

While I hope our continued success leads us to a title, this has been a great half decade of Bills football in many ways. And hopefully it’ll turn into a great decade of Bills football, along with a title.

Go Bills!

I should clarify. I’m not saying that fans shouldn’t appreciate their teams being good even without championships. But it does diminish any statistical accomplishments without championships. Especially when it’s continuous success like the Bills have had. The longer this statistical success goes on without winning, or even getting to a Super Bowl, the tougher it will be for fans to hang their hats on those successes. That’s all I’m saying.

I watch because I root for the team and its players. I want to see them reach the ultimate goal and feel pride as a fan.

The team have had great success during this run and it has been exhilarating at times. Unfortunately, every year has ended in heartbreak. If championships don’t matter, then why do we hurt so much when they get knocked out every year?

Until they win a Super Bowl, or at least get to one, all regular season successes would always ring hollow.

To those of you who say regular season and 'mere' playoff games are meaningless, why do you watch them?  I daresay most, if not all, of you writing those sentiments wouldn't dream of missing a regular season or 'non-Superbowl' playoff game.  Do you feel the same after one of these meaningless game wins as losses?  I've been watching the Bills since Jack Kemp was handing off to Cookie Gilchrist and would like nothing more than a Super Bowl victory for our Bills.  But geesh, we can still appreciate the recent successes they've had and thirst for a Super Bowl victory at the same time.

I answered this question a bit on my post above. I’ll expand on that here. Regular season games are only ‘meaningless’ on hindsight once the season ends in yet another heartbreak. In the present we watch to cheer and hope the team can win an advance to continue the fight. It’s not as simple as championships are everything so why even watch any game that’s not the Super Bowl.

Totally disagree.

I want the Bills to win a Superbowl. It isn't the "only thing that matters" to me as a fan. Enjoying watching them play matters. Enjoying wins matters. The journey matters. It's the climb.

That might not be how fandom is for you.... but I am definitely not lying. It is how fandom is for me.

The flip side to that is the harder the journey the more satisfying the reward will be if we do win one.

Because it's such a "Billsy" thing. The Bills could have been a dynasty in the 90's, but instead can only celebrate going to 4 straight SB's. Bills fans are the only ones who celebrate that, because we found a way to deal with our pain of that era. It's been so long since that happened, I've had to tell people that the Bills even went to SB's before because over time people only remember champions.

These stats are sadly right up our alley. So yes, until we get to and win a SB, these secondary things don't mean anything.

The last thing i would call someone for being a Bills fan is very fortunate.  It's been almost 40 years of pain and suffering with no trophy and now we are fortunate because we make the playoffs lol. Stats mean nothing

The curious thing, is that we aren't even regular season champions. We haven't even gotten the #1 seed in our own conference once.

That’s all good. There’s no ‘correct’ way to be a fan. Hopefully our two outlooks intersect in a superbowl win!

Absolutely! Maybe one year these ‘historic stats’ can culminate into something tangible like a Lombardi.

True but we're also the only team besides the Chiefs to reach at least the Divisional round five straight times since 2020.

If history is the judge it is true. Take the Patriots undefeated regular season. Without question the most dominant year in NFL history. But when that topic gets brought up they aren’t even in the conversation.

Who said they don't matter? Of course they do. But they aren't the only thing that matter. There are lesser triumphs as well.
