Steptide Posted Monday at 01:08 AM Posted Monday at 01:08 AM I know someone who got 2 electric bills for $1200. This was in a 2 bedroom apartment. Rochester gas and electric basically shrugged their shoulders and said pay it. I'm very surprised these electric bills arnt a bigger topic. Obviously something isn't right 1 Quote
ALF Posted Monday at 06:15 AM Posted Monday at 06:15 AM Called NYSEG about huge increase over last year but same usage. They said cost of natural gas almost doubled and a lot of electricity is produced by natural gas plants. Delivery costs more due to upgrade of old grid . Exporting liquified nat gas is more profitable due to boycott of Russian nat gas. New smart meter is not the problem. Quote
Shamrock Posted Monday at 11:07 AM Posted Monday at 11:07 AM Don’t visit Australia then! We sell gas to Japan, made an energy guarantee deal. They don’t pay tax on 56% of the gas they get. They have so much they can re-sell to Korea and Taiwan, oh, and they sell it back to us! Our government sux. Quote

Problem is, natural gas isn't what's making the bills high, it's the electricity part of it. Gas really hasent gone up that much in the last few years, electricity has Quote

You can shop for different suppliers at fixed or variable price thru ESCO , but delivery company stays the same , for me NYSEG . This is just my bill as an example , your supply and delivery costs can be a lot different. I use NYSEG variable cost electric and natural gas supplies. AI Overview In 2023, natural gas accounted for 43% of electricity generation in the United States. This makes it the single-largest source of energy used for electricity generation in the country. You're probably right. I'm not an expert by any means. Looking at my bills, the gas portion has stayed pretty much the same, it's the electric part that has gone through the roof. Either way it's absurd. People getting bills for thousands of dollars is crazy. Something is whack Quote

Just wait to you see how much your electric supply cost with NYSEG is in November, December, January and Feb. Last year it was peaking close to 30 cents per kWh I have clients that don't take into account how much of their usage occurs during those months when they charge you 4-5 times more than throughout the rest of the year The smart ones do, the ones that aren't so smart are like well your fixed rate is about what I'm paying now in April, so we will ride out. Ok good luck on that Edited yesterday at 07:38 PM by TBBills Fan Quote
