We have been sucked into a consumerist society where everything we buy is junk...our fridges, washers, dryers, microwaves are all created with an engineered obsolescence that guarantees they end up in the landfill in 5 years. When I visit my parents house I use the same wall oven and microwave I did when I was a teenager. It's tough to get ahead for people and raise their kids. Add the cost of technology and we're all in it. 1

Especially for working people. I've yet to hear a good argument against it assuming the lowest income earners don't pay taxes at all. I doubt the US ever does it though because the transitional period would be too burdensome.
