I think I read from another poster and I agree... to me this is a clear change in stance... why though... well sounds like they are talking and JC is putting a stake in the ground... so either they get this done soon... or it kinda blows up... but to me something is happening on this front that will cause a definitive direction.... deal or acrimony.... quite interested to see how this plays out... but at least he wont get hurt on the bike... take up the rubber mats though... LOL

Cook has bad influences from his brother and his agent; if he honestly believes he's worth 15mil + per year

He'd absolutely get it on the open market.

The "bad influence" so far has been... show up to camp, participate fully, hasnt said a single thing in the media outside of one comment on someone elses post.

Yall need to build a bridge and get over it. This is the business side of the game. Our situation is better than every other teams' negotiations.

Agree with everything... other than "this is the business side of the game". There's literally no other side than the business side. Absolutely don't blame him for trying to get paid.

Give him $12M a year guaranteed, with incentives that can make up 3M more. Win-win.

His agent would (should) laugh and hang up on you.

Why would he take that when he could get $15M base and up to $17-20M in incentives elsewhere?

You guys are expecting him to leave generational wealth on the table when this is likely his ONE shot to get paid, while the league and owners make plenty more for doing nothing.

4 years/$60M, $40M guaranteed. Throw a void year on the end and its instantly back down to $12M/yr ($8M/yr guaranteed) for the team. Make it an extension and now its essentially 5/$65M, with the void 6/$65... less than $11M average.

Cap is booming with streaming revenue. It's easy to get done where Cook wants to be and have both sides happy.

Cook is almost dead to me. He can recover this week if he ends this ridiculous hold in business.

I hoped Cook would piss and moan about his contract, but at the same time be a stand up guy and play balls to the wall in a contract year. It's to his long term benefit to do so.

But this hold in business is just a hold out with lipstick on it. If the Bills allow it to continue it is a bad example for other players. Cook's hold in buffoonery is, as they say in the military, conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline (UCMJ Article 134):

actions that undermine the effectiveness and morale of a military unit, often by violating established customs, rules, or standards of behavior.

Cook should attend practice wearing the uniform of the day and doing drills on the field with his teammates. If he doesn't, he should be told to stay home. He's a distraction and bad example.

Exactly. Does Cook really care which billionaire is cutting him a check? I sure wouldn't...

Beane interview this morning had a way different tenor than I was expecting based on Tom Pellissero’s reporting.

Not that it was bad blood or anything, but Beane sounded like a guy unmoved off his position and put this negotiation in the timeframe of “if it doesn’t get done before the season, it doesn’t get done”…. Which I’m not sure how compatible that is with Cook’s sudden vibe shift.

Never said sane. There are a lot of crazy GMs out there. And they ALL seem to lose their mind when FA hits.

I'd set the over/under at there being at least 4 teams that would pay him $15M/yr. Top of my head, the Patriots absolutely would right now.

And again the "$15M/yr" just has to be the face value average that his agent gets to brag about. There are multiple ways, like with every contract announced, that the real cap numbers do not match the average.

The Bills, in all their sanity, could lock him up through his prime, give him his bragging point, and still keep the cap hit around $12M or less.

What's the problem?

No they absolutely would not.  The Patriots just drafted Keyvon Henderson in the 2nd round and are pairing him with Stevenson who is on a 4 year/$36M contract.

Sane or not, it's August, no current team is going to trade a pick for Cook and give him a $15M/year deal.  His max value is to his current team and current offense.  He's not a player you can design an offense around and he's not elite enough to overcome a lack of blocking or poor play calls.  He's a great system back for a team like the Bills with an elite QB and o-line.

No team is paying James Cook $15M/year.

Disagree, nobody is giving $15 million to a 63 yard per game back, not happening.

Rookie Bucky Irving had same carries, 207 for more yards 1122, had more catchest 47 to Cooks 32 yet Cook only had more total TDs 18-8 are you giving Irving $15 million per year, doubt it, then why would anybody give Cook $15 million per. Irving is also 3 years younger.

The point is you can find similar production out of a rookie no need to for anybody to give Cook $15 million per year.

Hmmm - maybe Cook is part of a trade for Terry Mclaurin from the Redskins. That would be VERY interesting.

Otherwise, pay the dude. he Cooks. $12M and get him on the field.

I honestly don’t think he’s worth even that. He’s not a 3 down RB, drops way too many catchable balls in key moments. He’s a very good RB but I’m fine with Beane not bending over when Cook has only had one elite season. Let’s see how he and Ray Davis look this year and then make the calculated decision imo

I’d be down for this for sure

McLaurin isnt getting dealt. But Cook and Ed and a couple 1st round picks could be in play for Parsons.

Who said trade? I'm talking open Free Agency market, which would be next offseason (unless he gets Franchise Tagged which I think is a good possibility)
