Babich is to blame for sure... but the decision do i take my D off the field that has been scorched all day and give it to Josh to win the game who is steamrolling them OR do I ride or die with my defense who is putrid...

Hmmmmm? Let's go D! Was the most grossly inept call in a football game i have seen since the Russell Wilson interception in the Super Bowl. That was inexcusable.

His clock management at the end of the game costed us the opportunity to at least have a better chance of winning. 7 percent chance of onside recovery or 15 percent chance our defense stops them. Should have played the odds. I’m not saying the d would have stopped them. But McDermott is the head coach and highly vaulted as a defensive guru. The buck starts and stops with him. No scapegoat needed.

That’s fair, and I totally agree. It was a mistake and one that essentially ended the game.

That being said, we also have to recognize that he was playing the odds when he accepted the holding penalty to force a 3rd and 17.

McDermott is supposed to be a defensive genius and yet time and time again it’s the defense that lets us down in big games.

He needs to be held accountable for coming up short when it matters.

We are wasting a generational talent at QB.

Sean McDermott is the head coach....

I'm not going to overreact and I don't see this happening in the playoffs but it was pretty atrocious on defense at every level including scheme.

I want McDermott here for a long time but he can't keep losing these classic Allen games. You can't lose games like this when your QB is transcendent

And that’s the problem.  At some point Josh is going to lose faith in McDermott. If this happens it’s over.  I feel bad for him. To watch him apologizing for his play during the press conference was infuriating to say the least.

We lost by 2.  Defense still would have sucked but it's not inconceivable that we could have still won this game.

All I’m saying is that the blocked punt is not the reason they lost this game… to say it’s one of the reasons is probably more accurate

And over the last five years they have given up the least yards and least points and most turnovers.   The body of work is there.  If you want to argue playoffs that is valid.

To be clear … that’s what I am arguing …

Not like we gave up 21 points or less to four of our last five opponents headed into today or nothing. Nope. None of that matters.

That's patently false. The chiefs and dolphins score more than 21. The amazing offenses of Seattle, Indianapolis, and Tennessee did not.

And we also know today was an interconfence road game and not the playoffs

Respectively I have to disagree. Should have declined the penalty. 4th and 7 it would have been. Give them the fg. In a high scoring game like that Josh probably would have back doored them. With that being said mcveigh might have went for it anyway. But it may have compelled him to kick it. Who knows.

Fans are already piling on McD for his end of game decisions (accepting the penalty with 5 minutes left and the TO after the sneak).  I think there is fair criticism to both plays, however those two decisions are NOT why we lost the game.

Defense today:

11-15 on third down conversions (was 11-12 with about 5 minutes left in the game

1-1 on fourth down

0 sacks

38:30 time of possession for the Rams

457 total yards allowed

The game wasn't lost in the last 5 minutes, it was the poor playcalling by Babich and execution in the first 55 that really hurt us.

ZERO TURNOVERS!

Allen doesn’t seem like the type of player that would ever demand a coaching change. Like them or not, winners like Brady, Manning, LeBron, Jordan, etc. would step in and force ownership/management to make a change.

You disagreed with me, then walked through the logic and agreed with me?

They weren’t in comfortable FG range to begin with, they were likely going for it on 4th and 7 because taking that risk to go up 6 wasn’t going to make a difference. You back them up to 3rd and 17 and you’re playing the odds that that play results in a small gain, or possibly even no gain. Now they have to punt because going for it isn’t an option.

It’s not why they lost but it sure helped prevent them for winning!

You think Babich is more than a McD puppet? Like I’m sure he calls his own plays, but I’m also sure the gutless bend but don’t break/deep safeties is all McD’s wishes.

Funny, when the defense does well, we hear how Babich has been an improvement over McD calling the game, more aggressive, etc.. When the defense goes poorly, Babich is a puppet of McD.
