He had a very nice year for my fantasy team. He probably was in the top 5 in stats last year. But one of the BEST 5 WR's in the league? C'mon... (its not a true stat, but im guessing...) not all football players will be stars. or make millions of dollars a year. its up to them to get what they can. its up to the team to try to get him with a low contract. and the ONLY leverage a player has is to holdout. and you cant blame him for using his only leverage. im not talkin about mannings 100mill contract. im talkin about that backup or possible starter whos contract is up, or a guy who is a probowler and is paid less than the 3rd round draft pick... we all want to get paid what we think we are worth. and we all think we are worth more than we are. If the contracts were guaranteed then I would agree. Teams can cut players in the middle of a contract for underperforming so I don't see why the players shouldn't be able to do the same thing if they aren't being fairly compensated. The signing bonus is what these guys play for. Remember in the sports that do have guaranteed contracts, there is generally no signing bonus. So, in the NFL the rest of the contract is there as the negotiation by teams saying, okay, before you play a down for us, I am giving X amount of money to you upfront. However, for that you agree to play for me at X amount of dollars for this set time frame. Now, if the owners could go back and get a signing bonus back because a guy sucks, than I agree with you. Walker holding out is a disturbing trend in the NFL. But I don't have a problem with Favre calling him out. We've spent some time this off-season asking ourselves who is going to step up and be the leader on this new team of ours. In Green Bay, Favre is the undisputed leader so he gets graded on the curve...at least by me. He led his team to a Super Bowl victory, and has always been where he needed to be when the team absolutely needed him to be there. Now, this is totally different than last year when Garcia tried doing it as a new quarterback on a team with problems. That was a case where he should have stayed out of it because he had not proven himself to the team yet. And sure enough, it fell flat on its face.
