But idealists need occasional reminders as to why actual socialism fails in the real world because the people who lead productive responsible lives are penalized into subsidizing the unproductive and irresponsible. They've done the math. 716 is a disaster and not making them money - not thru their own fault Covid has put the nail in the coffin but its impossible to profit in the city unless the rent has been paid. The Sabres will continue to operate at the levels of spending you've seen. But I think the only thing keeping them in Buffalo is they are Terry's love. But the family will sell them eventually. Projects and rent control devalue property. Property value drops reduce tax base. Tax increases come next, and it’s not going to come from the unemployed living in free housing.
