Right now in Missouri (and I hear this is true in a number of other states), actively symptomatic people in risk groups (age, preexisting conditions) have to schedule a test up to 4-5 days out. That test will then take 6-10 days to return results. This ain't something abstract I heard in the media, I spent hours yesterday and this morning trying to find a test for a friend. Though the media says I'm not alone in this experience. Reports are that Quest and Labcorps nationwide are bombed and running a week behind. Contact tracing is useless and "box in" strategies can't work with this sort of delay. I love football. I want football. But to test totally healthy players trainers and coaches every day or every other day with next day results so they can pay a sport, while an aide caring for Elders or an actively symptomatic 59 yr old single parent engineer requires 72 hrs just to get a test taken, then a week or more to get the results.... ....that does not sit comfortably with me. PS it does not have to be this way. What if Mahomes and the Chiefs offense gets decimated. Or the 49ers DLine goes down. The guys who would otherwise be driving UPS trucks should not decide the outcome. Enough positive tests and they will stop for fear of perceived lack of player health concerns. I pray for the best possible outcome. I’m getting closer and closer to making peace with not seeing games if they can’t define plans pretty soon. so far In this discussion we have racked up essentially no preseason, very limited camp and likewise limited practice in season, with diluted talent and possible cancelled games. (Obviously HIPPA exists) It is half way through July and they haven’t reported any COVID cases as per of any league mandate. Why would I suddenly trust them to honestly report it come September, October, etc. say we make it to January, are they reporting it then? We are weeks away from training camp. Leagues trying to start up are reporting regularly, but not the NFL. Proportionately they should be at about 90 cases and crickets.
