In some ways, Rudy Gobert was an inadvertent hero here. Shutting down the NBA woke people up faster than would have otherwise happened. Other leagues followed, then society started to take it seriously. In the absence of true leadership, we follow our sports.

Any else’s email inbox getting filled up with letters from companies on the steps they’re taking to battle coronavirus?

 

I’ve received at least a dozen in the last few days. Just got one from my veterinarian’s office saying that they will only allow 1 patient into their office at a time. To wait in your car and call them to check in by phone. Another from Microsoft saying they will be closing their stores for now. Lots more with various precautions and steps being taken.

 

This is all so surreal.

PSA here - a buddy got a curious email with a link supposedly showing a map of where the virus was and how it was spreading. He was concerned and checked with someone who was knowledgeable on theses things (I forget what agency) and was told it was a dangerous email and do NOT click on the link. It had some kind of a, ummmmm........virus attached to the email about the virus.

 

If you don’t know what it is or who it came from, don’t click! 

 

I wish I was kidding, be smart.

Good point on the leadership void filled by Sports Leagues here.

The problem I have is that in the absence of central direction, things are happening too slowly and too piecemeal.  The covid-19 patients infected one state where restaurants are still open, or the Spring Breakers doing whatever they do after sun-n-fun on the beach then coming home, will impact health care capacity in other States.

Many people still aren't taking this seriously

I just saw an article that said West Virginia was the last state to report a confirmed case because of lack of testing, not because it isn’t there.  In fact, West Virginia has an older population, and many coal miners with lung damage. They’re very scared.

One factor in Wuhan may have been the pollution leading to damaged lungs; I have read that 68% of Chinese men also smoke

Serious question here:

 

We have been planning to re-do a half bathroom and move/change the can lighting in the family room. It will mean plumbers, electricians, drywall guys, painters, wood floor repair, etc. Lots and lots of people coming thru the house....where we sit hiding from the outside world. 

 

Vanity, plumbing fixtures etc are ordered and due to arrive this week. I’m not crazy to tell them to stay out of my house until we are in the clear, right? I can control what I touch if and when I go out, but I don’t really want all these people in my house! That’s sensible, right? Or am I going overboard since it’s contained to a relatively small area?  I go back and forth.....

Many emails - hotels, banks, airlines, etc.  Most offering to wave late fees, allow cancellations, etc.  Getting so many some getting flagged as spam.

I have the same question.  In my case it’s the basement bathroom that’s being renovated, and I don’t interact with the workers very much at all.  It took forever to get them to finally put my job at the front of the line.  They’ve been working on it on and off for over a month because of a plumbing and jackhammering fiasco that is now finally resolved.  I believe social distancing can be achieved. There’s a lead contractor who is handling the job. I will be interacting with them as little as possible, and washing my hands like crazy.
