Alexandria, The New Direction Of The Democrats

Recommended Posts

She's been hyped by no less than the DNC leadership as the future of the Democrat Party.

Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez caused controversy in a recent interview when she said America wasn’t founded on capitalism and called Israel an “occupation” force over the Palestinian territories.

Interviewer Margaret Hoover immediately sought clarification on Ocasio-Cortez’s use of the hot-button word “occupation.”

“Oh I think — what I meant is like the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas and places where Palestinians are experiencing difficulty in access to their housing and homes,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

She chuckled and tried to laugh off her blunder.

“I am not the expert on geopolitics on this issue,” she said. “I just look at things through a human rights lens and I may not use the right words … Middle Eastern politics is not exactly at my kitchen table every night.”

Earlier in the show, Ocasio-Cortez was asked about the modern economy, and she predicted that capitalism would come to an end someday.

She also claimed the United States didn’t have capitalist roots.

“Capitalism has not always existed in the world and it will not always exist in the world,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “When this country started … we did not operate on a capitalist economy.”

Eh...

She's not completely wrong.

Apparently the new gift from Alexandria is her explanation that the reason we have low unemployment is "because everyone has two jobs.”

When you couple this with Obama coming out to explain that what the country needs is "universal income."

Man, oh, man, it's like you leftist nutbags are BEGGING for more Trump.

That's because polling is starting to show a rapid rate in growing support for UBI that 48% of Americans now support it compared to 12% ten years ago.  It could eventually be a political winner.  It's a scary direction the Democrats are slowly heading down since the '08 crash.

  • 48% of Americans support a universal basic income program
  • 46% of supporters would pay higher personal taxes to support it
  • 80% of supporters say companies should pay higher taxes to fund the program

We're gonna see the real Obama in upcoming years I think.  He hid his true socialistic and racist beliefs to an extent while in the White House.  He's a free bird now.  Surprised it took him this long to start banging that drum.

Alexandria should get some political advice which would be to stay off the radar as much as possible before the election.  No interviews, no debates, no rallies.  Just count on the big "D" next to your name on the ballot to carry you in your district.

So Dems say:  come on in (to any and all immigrants), get a check and smoke a few joints too.  What a country.

I had a conversation the other day with a very smart political operator who work(ed/s) as a contractor for various alphabet agencies. "Strategist" is their job title, but fixer is more accurate. We are friends, so we were just shooting the **** rather than talking seriously. The conversation turned to how they would deal with rooting out the corruption inside both political parties without overturning the apple cart (so to speak). I asked how they would advise the President if they were asked. The answer was pretty amazing (imo).

You get the DNC to blow itself up and rebuild itself. This assumes Trump has unimpeachable evidence of the type of seditious acts, which as an outsider POTUS with control of the NSA he'd absolutely have, then the best play (according to this person) would be for Trump to present that evidence in private to the leaders of the DNC.

(remember this meeting?)

Make it clear the absolute worst of it will become public by midterms unless the guilty step down and the party rebuilds. We've already seen unusually high numbers of congresscritters resigning/not running - but how do you get the party to rebuild? In this person's opinion, you first get the party perform public seppuku. The best way to do that? The DNC leadership pushes the fringe loonies to the spotlight and gives them the wheel heading into the midterms for one.

That, in turn, will drive the majority of centrists and independents away in November and destroy the chances of a blue wave. Such a public shellacking and rejection of the fringe progressive left message (which is the minority of DNC voters) would - in theory - drive the DNC back towards the center over the next few election cycles without having to completely vaporize one of the major political parties - which to this person, would be incredibly destabilizing and something Trump likely would want to avoid.

Not saying that's what's happening, just that it was an interesting answer in light of what you said above (and how the DNC leadership is publicly acting).

That will go over as well as the tax on businesses out west to clean up the human feces.

Canada is way too conservative a society to talk like that.

Whats sad, in 2018, the Democrats could if they wanted to take over as the party of fiscal responsibility.... nobody fills that spot right now, I think that could be a very compelling message given the state of the Countries finances.  Propose some measures to fix CMS/SS fiscally, reign in war powers and military adventurism, among many other items people could get behind...

Instead they tinker with universal basic... isn't that tantamount to waving the white flag of leadership in a way?

I rather liked how 46% of the UBI supporters would personally pay higher taxes... to not work (and thus not pay taxes).

I think that is a good analysis. The ruling class is in reality moderate left, not marxist leninist revolutionary like Alexandria and that disheveled bolshevik from Vermont.  If the hardcore bolsheviks do take over the party, chuck the schmuck and crazy Nancy will be shown the door.

Look what happened in California last night, diane Feinstein was not endorsed by the CA dem convention.  Think about that. Diane Feinstein, one of the most powerful leaders in the dem party, could not get the endorsement of the biggest blue state in the nation.

Chuck the schmuck is not dumb. He sees the writing on the wall, imho. I think there is some there there with your post.

Yes, fiscal responsibility is wide open right now.  Neither party has made a claim there.
