[Incomplete Title] Sabres (21-12-5) & NHL 2018-19 - Game 39 (MSG-B) vs. BOS (20-14-4) at 7 PM ET on 12/29

Recommended Posts

Tonight is the type of game you must win. I can't take the losses to top tier teams and sneaking points away from others, but you must beat the team that is in front of you. And tonight that so happens to be a bad Panthers team. If you want to be a playoff team, beat the teams you should and look no further ahead than tonight.

You know it’s a good year when you are checking nhl.com @ night for scores, and have added On The Fly to your series auto record.

Pens getting drilled BTW!

No shite!  I've just started watching the NHL Network shows again.  Loved seeing Barry Melrose in the studio saying "the Sabres are for real" after the Bruins game.  He also said the Eichel-Skins-Reinhart line is "must see TV."

12-18: Phil Housley with Howard and Jeremy on WGR (14:18)

#Sabres head coach Phil Housley joins Howard and Jeremy next for his weekly visit on WGR! Tune in:

Housley - Eichel has been playing very well right now. He's got a lot of confidence, and he's working extremely hard and getting rewarded for his work. #Sabres

Housley - Every game he's tried to make a difference. Once he accepted the captaincy, he's done a terrific job of leading by example. The work he puts into practice has transitioned into his game play. He's been very consistent. #Sabres

Housley - He's a true competitor, he wants to win, he's very coachable and he listens to his teammates. It says a lot about his maturity and how he has evolved as a player and a leader. #Sabres

Housley - I think Eichel has a unique chemistry with Skinner, and Reinhart for that matter, with where they are on the ice. I can put them out there at any point of the game, and it says a lot about how they're playing in both ends of the ice. #Sabres

Housley on Reinhart - Him and Jack have a unique relationship. They grew up together in Buffalo and spend a lot of time together off the ice. He's completing the line of Eichel and Skinner by making some great plays in traffic areas. (1/2) #Sabres

Housley - He's also the one getting to the net and paying that price to make a play. (2/2) #Sabres

Housley - We have to get more guys contributing offensively, need to get more scoring behind our top line. #Sabres

Housley on Mittelstadt - We're playing some very good teams lately, and he's getting great experience playing against some top line guys and trying to find his way through that. (1/2) #Sabres

Housley - l I like where his development is right now. Moving forward, we'll try to keep things fresh and keep the speed and pace up. (2/2) #Sabres

Housley - There's nothing more that I know with the Patrik Berglund situation. #Sabres

Housley - Scott Wilson and Jake McCabe will be joining us for the pre-game skate this morning. It's good to get these guys back on the ice. #Sabres

Housley did specify though that neither player will play this evening against Florida. #Sabres

As per Phil Housley: Lawrence Pilut IR is retroactive to last Friday so he would be eligibe to play this Friday at Washington

Housley - There's time where we need to tighten things up defensively. We can't rely on our goaltender too much. I'm just happy that both guys are playing as well as they have. We have to focus on getting better defensively in order to shut teams down. #Sabres

Is Melrose finally done with ESPN?  I always wondered how he managed to keep a job with them for so long.

Paul Hamilton pointed out in WGR that over the last 27 games the Sabres have earned 22 points. There were only five games in that extended stint in which the team didn't earn a point. That shows how consistently good they have been in this season.

It's gotta be more than 22 points, considering there are a potential 54 points.

Yeah, Paul must be drunk.  The Sabres have earned 39 points in their last 27 games.

Edit:  or now I understand what he was trying to say; over their past 27 games the Sabres have earned points in 22 of them (for a total of 39).

Housley: McCabe, Pilut, Could Return to Sabres' Lineup this Weekend

L4JfEBm4?format=jpg&name=600x314

The Buffalo Sabres' defense could be closer to full strength when they return to Washington for a Friday primetime matchup against the Capitals in Capital One Arena.

Jake McCabe and Lawrence Pilut, both on injured reserve, could return to the lineup either Friday against the Capitals or Saturday when the Sabres host the Anaheim Ducks in KeyBank Center, coach Phil Housley told reporters Tuesday morning.

McCabe, who has missed the past eight games with an upper-body injury, joined the Sabres for Tuesday's morning skate and has participated in on-ice workouts with Dennis Miller, the Sabres' rehab and development coach, for eight of the past nine days. Pilut, meanwhile, has missed the past two games with a lower-body injury but did not skate with the team Tuesday.

Additionally, defenseman Nathan Beaulieu, who was injured in the second period of a 4-3 shootout loss in Washington Saturday, remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury, and Casey Nelson has yet to resume skating with the team. Winger Scott Wilson has yet to rejoin the team since breaking his ankle before the season opener but is expected to resume practicing soon.

"It’s good to see," Housley said Tuesday. "A lot of guys are starting to get close. Good to have Jake back in our pregame skate. It’s going to be good to get him back in some live practices."
