Darby trade

Classic example of overvaluing what you have (had).  Psychological phenomena... but no Darby could not garner a 1st round pick OR a 2nd round pick.  3rd round is excellent return for him.

This here. Smurt smurt answer.

I think if we had held onto him for another year we would have been lucky to get a 6th for him.  He did not suit our system and would have looked a lot worse had he spent another year in Buffalo.  Great trade in my opinion.

Any one else think that they traded Darby too soon, and the return wasnt really worth it. Having Darby now would be a more valuable trade piece than the 3rd round pick they got in return. In fact I believe the Bills could probably get a 1 for him if he were on the Roster right now. At the very least a swap of ones like the Glenn trade. Essentially the Bills "traded" mathews (no longer on the team) and Darby for a 3.  I believe Beane really swung and missed on this trade, and it could really come back and bite them.

Look. It's simple. Ronald Darby shrimpy 2nd year player 23 years old, wants to run his mouth about how he feels things should be run.  He wants to disagree and express his opinion about the changes being made.

You do that and you are gone.

That is the culture change. You get with the program or the program gets rid of you. That is what the new guys think needs to be done so that the Bills don't always lose.

So it is bye Ronald good luck. Bye Sammy. Bye Marcel. And so on.

Do you even know what makes a guy a zone verse man CB? Because it doesnt really exist. Its something that you hear in the media and you go with it.. Its one of the dumbest things someone can say.

My bad i didn't know CB's are universal and can play in any scheme. HUH i guess u got me. Boy do i feel foolish!

EJ has nothing to do with the trade, and hes no longer on the team. My point isn't Darby fitting a scheme. My point is holding on to him till now, and trading him now would be more valuable than getting a third round pick... Darby being part of a trade package to get into position for a top QB is more valuable than the third round pick that they have.

So with the benefit of hindsight you think they could have done better. I doubt it.

Our secondary was great last year. Didn't miss him at all.

Oh i agree. I am not saying the Bills D would be better with him. I think he has more trade value now, as trade bait than the 3rd round pick they got.

I think we won the Watkins and Darby trades.  People talk about how the Rams are making brilliant personnel moves but they fail to mention that they burned a second round draft pick on a one year WR rental.  So far Brandon  Beane has had an uncanny ability to  maximize our returns on players

So you think his trade value would be more simply because he played on a team that went to the SB?  You'd ignore that he missed half the season, played poorly for most of the rest of the season, and played poorly in the SB?  Yeah, no.  His trade value right now is minimal at best.

I didnt like getting rid of Watkins, but after seeing what it wouldve cost to keep him I'll take the second round pick.

I still believe we should have kept him.

He was 1) good 2) young and 3) cheap.

"He didn't fit the scheme" and "He didn't buy in" are really weak excuses.

No, he wasn't good.  Young and cheap, sure.  They were right to trade him and get what they could before he destroyed his trade value.

29th rated CB in the league. That would put him as a Teams #1. #1 corner IMO has more value than a 3rd round pick.

He showed excellent ability year 1, and had a bit of a sophmore slump. I chalk some of that up to the sinking ship that was Rex Ryan in 2016.

The ability and talent to become a top tier corner is there.

You can never have too many good pass rushers, corners and offensive playmakers.

I liked what Darby brought to the table. I wonder what they saw that they didnt like. If the guy wasnt buying in....i can see them moving on.

There were reports that he wasn't buying into the zone cover scheme that McD was implementing. I hated the trade when they did it but after I heard that I was kind ok with it. Sucks to give up a guy with that much talent fro a crapshoot on a 3rd

Really?  McDermott wants guys that bring their lunch pail, get to work and buy in.  If Darby didn't, see ya.

The idea that it's on coaches to coddle malcontents is a mystery to me.  Coaches coach, players play.

Darby was a fine player, but don't think we lost anything by getting rid of him and picking up Gaines. We got a draft pick out of the thing as well.

Darby wasn't seen as a fit in the zone system that we wanted to run. He doesn't track the ball well in the air, and lacks length.

I didn't say it was, but you will never have a room full of choir boys. Every team has players with "character issues" that get away with some stuff because they are talented football players. When was Darby  accused of not being someone who worked and played hard, or in your own word, a malcontent?
