Daboll was on a staff he played for college. These guys like to hire familiarity, or sign them as we saw with Carolina players. Rex brought in Jets, Jauron kept going to the A-Train. It's obvious he is not worried about a drop-off in the until by losing Byrd. McDermott is the one responsible for the turn around, along with the scheme and players themselves.
