A group of Florida teens can be heard laughing and joking as they watch a man drown in a pond, in an "extremely disturbing" video released by the Brevard County State Attorney's office.

The five unidentified teens, ages 14 to 16, shout taunts and scream with laughter as the man dies in Cocoa, Florida Today reports. None of the teens called 911, but it’s likely they’ll face no charges.

You can only hope one day these kids will be in deep you know what or on life support and somebody will laugh at them

no, we cannot, because that means we have not got any better.

no we cannot because at that point the negative just keeps itself going.

I won't click on the whole thing, but I actually hope we can live in a world where that will never happen again. Impossible, I know, but I'd prefer to think that way.

That's kind of you to say. There's not part of you though that wants karma to be served? I mean what if that was your best friend drowning

i'd rather them learn from their stupidity and poor choices to grow and become something of themselves if i had first choice.

off course i wouldnt care if they got hit by a train either, but i'm a sorry bastard prick

Oh, don't be too hard on yourself. You're only semi-sorry. :)

I hope everybody learns to swim AND if one can't, don't go in the water thinking that your friends, who probably also can't swim, are going to save you.

They still could have called for help or:

Reached

Throw

Rowed

But... If non-swimmers, most certainly NOT:

Go

They simply became desensitized, probably paralysed by their own ability to help and then just didn't give a schit.

Look to their parents for raising callous people like this.

Oh, every human has the ability to learn to swim. Why did he go in?

Have you?

Well put. What a depressing story. An eye for an eye is an understandable first reaction but just perpetuates the wrong.

indeed. and it is empowering and enlightening when the lesson learned has nothing to do with the stupidity.

Yeah...

I am not exonerating them, sounds like rough existence, not given the tools of proper parenting. Then they are caught between a rock and hard place.

That said... I know a guy, was in Navy and can't swim. How does that happen? Really? A non-swimmer. Maybe I am missing something, but I can't wrap my brain around the concept of being a non-swimmer. Of course we all don't have to be Mark Spitz.

Police: Teens who filmed, mocked drowning man in Brevard to be charged

http://www.mynews13.com/content/news/cfnews13/news/article.html/content/news/articles/cfn/2017/7/21/video_teens_filmed_m.html

The group of teenagers who filmed and mocked a man as he was drowning in a Cocoa pond will be charged, said the police chief.

While Cocoa Police Chief Michael Cantaloupe did not describe the charges against the five teenagers who recorded and mocked 31-year-old Jamel Dunn as he drowned in a pond on July 7, he did explain why he is able to charge them in a press conference on Friday afternoon.

He said it is the duty of four people to report a death. While there is no requirement to report to officials that someone is dying, but once someone is dead, then four people, according to the law, must report it to authorities, he explained.

The police are in the middle of filing paperwork to the state's attorney's office, Cantaloupe said.

But what about the Good Samaritan law? It has to be real because I saw it on Seinfeld once.

It's Florida. Try finding a Good Samaritan. Unless, you want to wait 30 minutes for the person using walker to move 30".

Easy way to speed the old ones up. Put a casino on every corner. Then just have your "accident" near a casino.

;-)

You know their Public Defenders will just argue that they were not positive he died. Left thinking he pulled through.

Yeah, I want to see them nailed. But, what a waste of $$$, you actually think it will deter this behavior and change culture... Yeah gov't! Just push it underground.

This is a terrible action by these kids, or rather inaction I guess. But I find it funny when people say things like a "step lower in our society and species." You do not have to look far into the past to see really lower steps in our society and our species. From homophobia, to sexism, to racism, to genocides, to absolutely brutal trench warfare, to brutal working conditions, to slavery, etc, etc, etc. Many things still exist, yes, but to a much smaller degree than they did in the past. Pretty much every generation is more civilized than the last in one shape or another if you really think about it.

Gross video. Probably just say they didn't know how to swim or were scared of a gator. Gross, Gross, Gross, makes yah want to bang their heads together and make mashed potatoes.

Exactly. They most likely didn't know how to swim. Even if they did, the last resort is to go in after... Even then you risk getting pulled under by a panicked drowning victim.

They could have called for help, they could have reached, thrown something...

The drowning victim was stupid, he couldn't swim either, why is he in water?

The teens were right on the Darwin aspect.

Is it a Darwin Award for the one who drowned, they did warn his stupid azz.

But... Compassion should win out or try to overcome Darwin?
