snafu
That's fine until one faith tries to legislate its morality onto others. When that happens I have an issue with it, regardless of whether that faith is Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Mormon, or whatever other faith is doing it. A lot of religions agree on issues of morality. In fact, a lot of non- religious individuals take the same morality stances on many issues. Many laws and regulations are morality based. Just because one faith or another agrees with a law and voices their opinion doesn't necessarily mean that they control the agenda.
Drunkard
So you stand with the Christian baker who files for bankruptcy after being dragged through the court system to be be forced to bake a cake for a gay wedding? Interesting. I'd be more than happy to support every Christian bakery in the country and allow them to refuse service to those homosexual sinners in exchange for states like Kansas not being able to try to pass off intelligent design as science. You didn't answer the question. Try it without going full gator, okay. Yes or no. Do you support a Christian baker not wanting to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding based on their religious beliefs? Or should they be forced to bake a cake to avoid discrimination? unbillievable
When a liberal baker refuses to serve police officers, the public boycotts the business and it shuts down. When a conservative baker refuses to serve gay people, the government has to shut it down because business usually increases.
Boatdrinks
You didn't answer the question. Try it without going full gator, okay. Yes or no. Do you support a Christian baker not wanting to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding based on their religious beliefs? Or should they be forced to bake a cake to avoid discrimination? There is no such thing as a "Christian " baker. Do they serve only Christians? If they did that I guess some would consider them discriminatory. They are just a baker. It is a job. If you are a business you serve all. Provided the customer is wearing a shirt and shoes of course. They are baking a cake and people are eating it. No " sin " there. They have no business based stance on the reason for the gathering, nor a take on the morality of those eating it or what is being celebrated. Must everyone take a " morality test" for a business to decide if they will serve us? Obviously that is ridiculous, as is the entire concept. They are not being forced to bake a cake , they are in the business of baking cakes. My mechanic is not being forced to repair my car, I'm not sure where anyone gets off thinking this is any different. Can I open a bakery and refuse to serve all Christians because they offend my morality? When a liberal baker refuses to serve police officers, the public boycotts the business and it shuts down. When a conservative baker refuses to serve gay people, the government has to shut it down because business usually increases. If you don't see the difference between refusing to serve a Police officer and refusing to serve someone based on your opinion of their sexual orientation you are beyond the point of intelligent discussion .And yes, both are unnaceptable. Why anyone cares about someone else's sexual orientation is beyond me. Perhaps they aren't comfortable with their own sexuality or with sex at all. One is either straight or gay. That's it. Anyone who claims to be " trans" whatever is kidding themselves. They are not comfortable with their sexuality and have a mental issue. That said we all can use the same gender - appropriate bathrooms and patronize the same businesses . That business would increase at a place of business that refused to serve based on sexual orientation is just a reflection of the stupidity of religion and those who claim to follow it. People do stupid things, it's not proof that something is " right". Edited March 19, 2017 by Boatdrinks
IDBillzFan
Can I open a bakery and refuse to serve all Christians because they offend my morality? Yes you can. Do you know why? Because a Christian wouldn't purposely use money from far-right organizations to sue you to the extent that you'd lose your business because of your decision to not serve Christians. It's your business. You own it. You can choose who can hire your services. I own my own business, and I choose who can hire my company every freaking day. That was the point to this discussion. When it comes to politics, Drunkard admittedly hates Christians because he fears they try to legislate their morality on him. So if he doesn't want Christians legislating their morality on him, surely he must agree that he doesn't want others legislating their morality on Christians. You know...like being forced to do something they don't want to do. And, um, yeah...there is such a thing as a Christian baker. And a Christian plumber. And Christian electrician. Real Estate agents. Dry cleaners. The list goes on. Some churches actually distribute booklets full of businesses owned by Christians That you somehow think this means they exclusively serve Christians is your own misunderstanding. There are all of those things that just happen to be christian. But they are still just a baker, plumber etc at the end of the day. Using religion as an excuse to discriminate is not something that is a good thing in society. I just don't agree with you. No one is legislating morality on anyone else by saying that you must serve the public that wishes to patronize your services. You shouldn't have a take on it is what I'm saying. If a person who happens to be gay buys a cake, must the baker enjoy sex with men? That is an idiotic way of thinking. It's a business transaction and trying to make it into anything else is folly. If I'm a mechanic and I overhear a customer talking about their being a born again christian, I'm pretty sure that I disagree with everything about them and that they offend every part of my being. Should I then be able to tell them they need to get another tow because I don't want to fix their brakes? No. Even though I think they are an a$$hat that I wouldn't mind seeing get obliterated by a semi, their money will spend as well as anyone else's. And don't give me some line about that person being above hiring an attorney to sue me. They absolutely would be just as likely to do so. If they would not bake a cake for someone who they disagreed with on the basis of something like sexual orientation, I'm damn sure they would. Their " belief system" is simply a defense mechanism allowing them to feel okabout themselves every day even though they realize they are an ignorant a$$ -hat that thinks they have some kind of say over others. Their refusal to do business is their version of a Muslim stoning a gay person or pushing them off a building. They must punish others that don't agree with their antiquated thinking. And no, don't try to tell me that baking a cake for money or fixing a car is punishment depending who is paying you the money. Sheer lunacy. Being " forced" to serve the public that their business is licensed to serve is neither immoral nor actually " forcing" their business to do anything other than what they do for a living. You know, what they applied for a license to do. If someone applies for a license to run a coffee shop, are they being forced to serve their customers or being allowed to serve them? If you want to select customers that you agree with on the basis of " religion" then call it a hobby and knock yourself out. Or make everyone fill out a form when they come in asking them , about their personal lives. See how many customers you get. This is a bull$%#@ argument right from the start. Go ahead and google "Christian Bakery" and tell me how many pages you have to sort through before you find a website for a Christian Bakery. Go ahead and look through the yellow pages - I don't care what city you search - and provide me a listing for a "Christian Bakery". I'll wait. This entire issue is ginned up by people who are searching for family owned, mom & pop bakeries who are unused to and uncomfortable with the idea of involving themselves in gay weddings and the lifestyle in general, and once they find one they run to the press, screaming "bigotry and oppression" all the way. Everybody knows this, but people who argue your point of view pretend not to. You may not have a problem with gay weddings, I don't have a problem with them, but some people DO NOT WISH TO BE INVOLVED, and should not be coerced into it. Period. People who take your position are either being duped or are willing participants in deception. Edited March 19, 2017 by Azalin
