You practice all year plays that are designed to work in good weather and then when it really counts play in snow. No other sport leaves the outcome of a contest so dependent on the elements. What plays are in the "bad weather/snow day" playbook? People are making it sound like the Bills are disregarding some standard NFL practice for preparing for snow games. Two are in our division. need is a relative term. they cant be bumbling idiots, but if they are even halfway decent, the number of road games they play in snow would be pretty limited (any given year only a handful are late enough for it to be an issue and even if one of those lands in a northern city the odds of actual snowfall in that window is slim. it wouldnt be a regular problem. I agree. I feel the weather advantage/disadvantage is overplayed for the most part. I could see it being more relevant decades ago when teams stayed together for years at a time. But with FA nowadays its impossible to field a team made for the elements. And im not even sure what that would mean exactly. Also its common nowadays for teams to no longer practice outdoors whereas decades ago that wasnt the case and that also may have contributed to having more relevance in the past. its all a bit overplayed in my opinion. The two Bills that touch the ball most often......Tyrod and McCoy.......are both northern college football players who've seen plenty of snow........that's not the issue........the problem is that they NEED to make sharp cut-on-a-dime plays to be effective. But on days like last Sunday you need a straight ahead/one cut runner in the backfield and preferably a QB who throws the ball underneath to good RAC WR's. The Bills don't really have the option of playing MG ahead of a healthy McCoy because of his salary and Tyrod isn't going to turn into a surgical passer, especially not with this WR corps. Yeah, Sammy should be all weather.......but he's not all the way back or in sync with Tyrod yet........and Skates Woods is still Skates Woods........he almost managed to turn one of his patented slips into a spectacular pick-6 this time. On defense you don't want undersized DL playing two gap football........the weather only served to further underscore the poor fit of this personnel in RR scheme. The QB and the receiver know the route, and the DB has to react. In bad weather the DB will have to move slower, and may fall down. Advantage offense. For some reason this does not seem to be common knowledge. I also thought Gillislee should have been handed the ball more. Beef Jerky Posted December 16, 2016 Share Posted December 16, 2016 In the Steelers game the Bills looked like they were playing in snow for the first time. I realize the snow wasn't plentiful in WNY until recently and not sure how much time they've had to be able to practice in it. But it was pretty noticeable. Are they practicing in it this week? Because it's supposed to snow again on Sunday. A lot of the players we've drafted and signed in FA are from the south or warm climate schools. McCoy is the exception. I've always advocated the Big 10 should be more of a focus for cold weather teams. Leveon Bell and Ryan Shazier were the best two players on the field and they both played in weather and snow for years before going into the league. Shazier is from Miami but had 3 years of weather in college. Thoughts? So every time it snows maybe they will let us play in Detroit? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
