Whenever I see one of these things where some group blocks a road I wonder why this is not false imprisonment.  But I'm not a lawyer.

Let's bring in the resident lawyer @ChiGoose.  From a legal perspective, why is this not false imprisonment?

Only if a Republican does it is it false imprisonment. When democrats do it it’s totally ok!

Not my area of expertise, but I don't think false imprisonment or related charges would be successful. Being annoying and causing traffic isn't the same as imprisonment or restraint. People can always get out of their cars and walk (as it seems many did in this instance). A quick glance at the IL code around false imprisonment doesn't reveal an obvious charge.

Many of the protesters did get arrested and charged, however: 40 protesters arrested outside O'Hare Airport for blocking traffic; forcing people to walk to terminals

I imagine the charges end up being something around obstruction or interference with traffic but we'll see when the charges are released.

As a sidenote: my wife unwittingly got caught up in this. The traffic backed up pretty severely and she ended up being quite late to work this morning. That's part of a pretty major highway intersection.

I used to fly in and out of O'Hare often and if they were where 90 and 94 meet the mess would be impressive. I can't believe these morons believe these stunts will get people on their side.

As far as I can tell, it was 190 into O’Hare but the traffic blocked up to the 90/190/294 junction.

Causing people to miss their flights isn’t going to endear anyone to your side. Seems like this group was probably pretty insular in their thinking.

Can't condemn burning the flag or chants of "death to America"

Gee, I wonder how anyone could get the crazy idea that these elected officials are actually America hating commies.

Unlike California, New York, and Chicago. Florida has a real Governor. Probably the best one in the country. Go Ron. Democrat BS doesn't fly in Florida.

The Lefts idea of protesting kind of ignores the part about "peaceful grievance of GOVERNMENT."

Stopping people (an actual crime in every state, False imprisonment), harassing business owners isn't helping their cause.

The folks that want micro aggressions (words) to be a criminal act with criminal consequences won't be a fan of that being put into law.

could be used against them as they do nothing but throw insults that them themselves would call a micro aggression, and then claim victimhood.

NYS has an anti-hate sign law that prohibits things like the rebel flag/nazi flag, how long till communist flags and banners are in the same boat.

These protesters go to extraordinary lengths to prove their dedication to the cause. Some glue themselves to the road. Others chain their hands together inside PVC pipe so they can't be moved.

This genius stuck his arm in a concrete barrel and screamed in pain when the police finally showed up and worked to remove him. Listen to him yelling how they're "twisting his hand" when they're telling him to just let go of the rebar.
