thebandit27
Not really. If I watched those other teams like I do the Bills I am sure I could give you plays where they helped turn tide or they sealed a game. Gilmore is solid. He is by no means a top five corner, but he will get paid like one. Well, I generally watch 8-10 NFL games per week, and I can tell you that you may be surprised; those guys aren't making game-changing plays on any kind of regular basis. For example, Norman has 7 career interceptions (4 last year) and had 19 passes defended last year...compare that to Gilmore's 9 career INTs and 18 passes defensed last year (both entered the league in 2012). Haden and Revis are much the same. These guys don't get paid to be flashy; they get paid to consistently stick to their man. As to Gilmore, though I think it belies the point I'm trying to make, I can certainly give you some key plays he's made right off the top of my head: Game-ending INT against Tennessee in 2015 Tipped ball that lead to Corey Graham's INT vs. Jets on Thursday night (2015)--lead to the team's first two scores (via FG on the offensive possession and a fumble-return for TD on the ensuing kickoff) Tide-turning INT against Detroit in Week 5 of 2014--Bills down 14-0 at the time. Game-sealing INT against Jax in Week 15 of 2013 on 3rd-and-goal from the 5 What's more indicative of his value, IMO, would be to go back and watch the Denver and GB games at the end of 2014. He was the best player on the field in those games, and I'm not exaggerating. Is he a top 5 guy? Not sure...it's certainly close. If I have to pick, my top 3 NFL corners, right now, are: Richard Sherman Josh Norman Vontae Davis After that, you can take your favorite two from Gilmore, Patrick Peterson, Aquib Talib, Malcolm Butler, or Darius Slay to round out your top 5. PO16FFS
I don't hate any of our players. Is Gilmore elite? No. An elite corner excels in every aspect of coverage. Gilmore's hands aren't above average, his tackling is below average. His calling card is press coverage. I consider him a "solid" corner ...not an elite corner, not even a pro bowl level corner. If they open up the vault for this player i hope he improves the several departments he is lacking in. The tackling issue has become a health issue because his form is that bad. That in itself has to affect how we negotiate with him. Fully Agree. Do I want Gilmore on the team? Yes. Is he a Superstar like the kool-aid drinkers say he is? NOPE. Did he help Darby? Of course, Darby was a rookie. Do I expect Darby to outperform Gilmore in the next few years now that he's got his feet wet? Easily will. Gilmore is a press Specialist. That is it, that is all. Once he is into open space, he has no clue where his defender is. I
YoloinOhio
@joebuscaglia Did Janoris Jenkins set the market for the #Bills and Stephon Gilmore? Well, yes and no. 26CornerBlitz
@TyDunne The #Bills next order of business may be to lock up Stephon Gilmore. He's not like other cornerbacks in the NFL... Actions speak louder than words for Bills’ GilmoreThe path to cornerback notoriety in 2016 includes a megaphone. You must be loud. Brash. Must douse your game in hot sauce, spam your Twitter account with opinions and always – always – be entertaining. So mention “Josh Norman,” the Carolina Panthers’ flamboyant corner, and Stephon Gilmore speaks with blunt, biting conviction.“Maybe I should talk a little bit more,” said Gilmore, “but that’s not really my personality to go out there and just rant about stuff. I’m very confident in my ability. If I talked the way I was as confident as I am, then I probably would be like that, you know?”
Luxy312
When he plays, I think Gilmore is an elite corner. Therein lies the rub. He's been in the NFL for 4 years and has just ONE complete season. 11 games missed in 4 years means that he's not deserving of "top-5" corner money. That's just my opinion and the Bills may feel differently, but you have to look at the hard facts. I do like the fact that he's not a big mouthed a-hole like Sherman, Talib, and many others. chris heff
The Bills are obviously all in on Rex. If it has any chance of success a guy with Gilmore's skills is key. Get a deal done.

K D
Sounds like you guys are pretty biased. He's the best on the Bills but that doesn't make him elite. I have friends in other cities that have never heard of Gilmore. Everyone has heard of Revis, Peterson, Norman, Sherman. Nobody says "watch out for Buffalo they have that elite shut down corner Stephon Gilmore." We have really good solid corners. The only elite player we have on the whole team is Dareus and even that is questionable since he's not even the best DT in the AFC East. You guys seem to live in a bubble where the Bills have all of these great players and can do no wrong and meanwhile we haven't been to the playoffs since Clinton was in office. atlbillsfan1975
I kind of agree with you Kdiggz that some Bills fans see certain players with rose color glasses. Gilmore is good but I just don't see him as elite. Does his draft spot have anything to do with people's opinion? I think Darby was as good last year maybe even better, in year 1. This could be due to expectations on my part, I will be honest.

K D
Yep I think Darby showed he has the potential to be really good. Gilmore plays a little more physical so I think right now he has the leg up on him. We are lucky to have 2 solid corners this season

Don't bother watching the way he shut die a guy like Odell Beckham. The old expression "you can see a lot by looking" just doesn't seem to apply for some. Gilmore has taken many WR's from the field of play. By almost any measure you look at, he's in the top tier at his position. I'll call it the top 25%. At the end of the day, that's how he's going to get paid. Did Darby have a better year last year? Maybe. Were QB's throwing Darby's way because he was a rookie? Also a solid maybe. What I do know is that for 4 years, the Bills have moved Gilmore around to face the #1 WR of their opponents. Notwithstanding what armchair internet warriors believe, it seems that the Bills front office believes that he's got talent.
