Mario Williams interview ( hard to disagree )

Alot of back and forth at the start, but at the end of the video, I fully agree with Mario. The Bills spent alot of money and time building the front 4 only to have a coach come in and change the system.

Merry Xmas to all.

I agree with MW on this one. The Dline except Hughes pouted all year over this, that is the wrong way to deal with it but Rex screwed it up and it falls 90% on him and 10% on Pegula and Whaley for hiring the buffoon. Rex has more BS than coach Dickerson when he was on GR55

Dickerson the "oinker". Watching 30 on 30 reminded me of what a complete moron that dude was.

Well he's not wrong.

The line went from amazing to non existent with the same personnel.

Rex is mostly to blame.

I agree. I'm sure Rex didn't tell Terry & Kim that he'd have to get all new guys to make his defense work. He said he'd take what we have and make it even better. So either he lied or was too dumb to judge the players he had. This is mostly on Rex.

The players surely hold responsibility over their own actions- but I bet it's tough when you have incredible success and then a new boss comes in and says he's going to work to set you up to repeat it and then you show up to work and he pulls the rug out from under you

Or you can fire Rex now and hire a coach who can run a system that fits the players strengths.... It would be the more logical move, but I doubt it happens.

The truth of the matter is the Pegulas really !@#$ed up.

It is not really the logical move because changing out coaches every year is not a recepti for success

And we can either sit and cry about the spilt milk or figure out how to fix the mistake of this year and move on

It is easy to say FIRE EVERYBODY BLOW IT UP every year.....but that wont get us closer

A big part of changing coaches every year being a failure is that you are constantly chasing players for different schemes.

In this case, we would be chasing a coach for our existing players.

Actually, blowing it up would be wrong and not what we need. Quantum difference between blowing it up and firing Ryan. Rex is a damn malignant tumor that will only grow if not cut out. Yes! He's that bad! It has to be done the Monday after the last game.

John, why is changing coaches every year a problem?

This was why I didn't want Rex in the first place not because I had anything against him as a coach but because the strongest part of our team was our 4-3 defense and Rex is a 3-4 coach, every time a new coach comes in to a situation like this they always say something like "even though I coach Blah blah blah X system and the team has personal for Blah blah blah Y system we'll modify our system to take advantage of the talent we got" then they go ahead and implement their system whether it takes advantage of the players strength or not. It's sad to think about what might have been but even if we had kept our 4-3 defense it probably would have been a little down anyways, Kyle Williams is coming to an end as a full-time pro-bowl DT, he's going to be a very good pass rush specialist DT or if he continues to play a majority of downs, a guy who's penetrating big plays continue to diminish while the number of plays he gets washed out increases. Mario Williams might have good reason to think the 3-4 doesn't make best use of his talents but beyond that lets not forget his history has been very very good seasons alternating with very mediocre seasons. Finally for the defense there is not doubt injuries have hurt especially Arron Williams injury.

Now I think the Bills have to move on and get Rex guys who fit his defense, get a better number 2 WR, a better backup QB, RT etc etc

So you still can't give me a reason? Is it because constant coaching changes lead to unnecessary roster turnover due to scheme change?

That's a big part, certainly. There's also the message it sends to future coaching candidates, UFAs, and everyone else in the league. No one wants to come to a team that is such a cluster!@#$ they keep turning over coaches and rosters every other year.

That said, staying with the wrong coach just to gain stability isn't the answer either.

And in 2 years when we fire Rex spend the next 3 years after that be in a replacing "Rex's guys" rebuilding effort. Sounds like the Bills way.
