Maybe it was carryover from the Bills, but I yelled at the TV a lot in this game. The Sabres gave up so many chances. They passed up so many hits. Their passing was off most of the game.

I know, I know, they won, but they did not play well, imo. I guess they came up empty handed some games that they deserved points so ...

Ryan O'Reilly so far is the MVP of the team. He is one of the best two way players in the game. There is little flash to his game. He has a grinder style but is also a talented no frills player who is a finisher.

I'm hoping that Evander Kane eventually fits in with his line mates. I'm not sure if it has determined who he best fits with. His individual talents are evident but it hasn't translated into production.

I really like Bylsma as a coach. Compare his mature and flexible approach to the game to that huckster who is leading the undisciplined football team located in the same city. Under Bylsma players are held accountable through playing time while under the football coach discipline is enforced through bracelets.

12-15: DAN BYLSMA ON WGR (18:20)

Bylsma - "To go into Detroit, a tough place to play, it was a tough win."

Bylsma - "We didn't have a lot going on in first 10 minutes of the 3rd period, but we kept saying, 'stick with it.'"

Bylsma - "To stay with it, especially when you're down, it's a tough thing to do. The guys did it, and patience paid off in the 3rd period."

Bylsma on ROR - "He's been pretty remarkable. We're using him a lot in the d-zone & taking draws... (cont.)"

Bylsma on ROR (cont.) - "You start wonder how much energy he has left late in games."

Bylsma on Larsson - "When you're going through a stretch like he was going through, it can weigh on your mind... (cont.)"

Bylsma on Larsson (cont.) - "...I wanted to see more of a reaction from him after the goal, but it was huge for his confidence."

Bylsma on McCabe - "You deal with a lot coming at you, it can get cloudy at times. He needed to step back & take a look at his game."

Bylsma on 55 - "He is an extremely talented player. His skating ability, size, he's got the potential. He works hard out on the ice."

Bylsma on 40 - "Robin is doing well. He's been back on the ice... Working on his own, no timetable on his return to full practice."

Bylsma - Ennis and Pysyk still week-to-week, hopefully both can get back on the ice soon.

Game Notes NHL Stats Press Clips

@PR_NHL

Per @EliasSports: @BuffaloSabres won in regulation when trailing in the final 5:00 of the 3rd period for the first time since April 2, 2003.

@BillHoppeNHL

Very optional skate for Sabres but Ryan O'Reilly is still on the ice.

ROR...is proving to be worth every penny and also showing the leadership the Bills sorely don't have.

At least one team in Buffalo plays with heart and effort!

Were going to have a log jam when Lehner comes back they way Linus and chad have played.

They'll just send Ullmark down to Rochester once Lehner is ready.

@BuffaloSabres

Coach Bylsma on Lehner: He's been taking more reps on his own, having some good days on the ice. Hopefully his progression continues.

It's possible Tyler Ennis could be back to practice soon, has also been working on his own, Coach Bylsma says.

I don't think Lehner is automatically the starter when healthy. He'll be added to the rotation. Honestly goaltending has not been losing them games. Defense is the main issue. They are still learning how to play.

It's a no brainer to send him to Rochester on a rehab stint. He needs to get as much time there as possible (14 days max, according to the CBA).
