Walmart and Unions

Philosophically, I'm opposed to unions. This is a capitalist economy/society where value/cost of things is/should be determined by fair supply & demand. Labor is no different.

There's laws for companies not acting in a manner that's conducive to fair trade (monopoly, collusion, etc.), yet we allow & in sometimes even promote those very actions from our labor force.

That said, I realize that in some instances, unions are a necessary evil in that they provide an 'efficiency' in the market. You need to quote overpay unquote to have people make widgets so that there's enough capital available for people to purchase do-hickeys and keep them off the public dole. In theory, at least.

Hmmmnn....I wonder why the city is in the toilet? Could it be from the decades of the local government and the Unions giving each other kickbacks until the well ran dry?

Nah! I'm just paranoid.

Are you serious??? You are going to blame the unions for the disaster we call Bufffalo? Typical non-union /management response. This city/county has been run into the ground by our political leaders that keep getting voted back into office. Massiello,Giambra, look at them before you start busting on the union workers. Christ,we cant even decide on what bridge to build. Whats it been 5 years ? That must also be the fault of the unions. Buffalo is a great football town but other than that it sucks.

Yeah, the unions haven't at all played a roll in the demise.

Unions aren't completely evil but have evolved into something that no longer has the best intentions of the workers in mind. It's pretty much the cycle of anything involving power, people, and money, when you get right down to it.

But for your sake we can pretend they're really great and not contributing to the demise of our society.

Not busting on the workers. I don't know how long you've lived in Buffalo, but it doesn't turn into a ghost town overnight. It's been 50 years of a slow rape, accelerated when renewable $ left town because it was cheaper to do business elsewhere. Who do you think owns Masiello and Giambra? The government is the only game left in town, and now that their well is dried up the state convienently steps in to throw in the towel after the damage is done.

As for your bridge....why does it take 5 years? Because they've shelled out millions to "consulting groups" to come up with a viable plan. There's no bridge, there is no waterfront, but you just might get a fancy new Bass Pro!! I wonder who gets the job of accepting the $25 million county granted job of redoing the Aud?

Forgive me for my frankness, but, in my own experience, Union s suck, plain and simple. This is, however, a very skewed perception based on past events that caused me to have a lingering bad taste in my mouth. On the other side, I worked with several union guys that were top notch, and exemplified the term "A fair days work for a fair days pay". Unfortunately, the sh1tless layabouts that ruled the roost overshadowed everything else. This response is not directed personally, just my opinion.

I am just wondering as I sit here at home with my family in our new in-ground swimming pool enjoying one of my six weeks of vacation I get, just how many union members we have here. I am union and proud of it.

I guess Christopher and Paulie helped move the money and the bodies before they started digging for the pool?

I keeed, I keeeeeed!

Ok, here we go folks...

1) Spikes, I loved our last talk about unions so much I have you forever quoted in my sig line. And yes, the typo was yours as well.

2) The fact that you started off your post bragging about your new pool and vacation says a lot about you. There are some people on this board that could fit your new pool inside their second garage, but you sure as hell won't hear them talking about it on a football message board.

3) I dislike unions based on personal experiences. All union workers are not bad by any stretch, but there are stereotypes for a reason, and I have experienced or witnessed many of these...teachers unions, teamsters etc......

Buffalo has ALWAYS been a worker town. A lot of businesses in Buffalo have had their home HQ's elswhere. Now that is a problem because where do businesses retract to during tough economic times? Back to their home city?

Buffalo has historically been an "outpost" for businesses in other cities. There is no loyalty to Buffalo.

How many businesses in the last 50 years pulled out of Buffalo that were based in Buffalo?

I can name two, I am sure there are more but, you can't deny that the big players came from other cities:

Curtiss

Trico

I see the comrade hasn't replied to your quotation of his $28 an hour post.

Can't wait until his company outsources to China where they pay their workers 1/100th of the cost to do a better job.

Then again, he may not even be manufacturing. If he's got 13 weeks of vacation, he's likely a teacher, in which case he's still leeching off society's teet.

Within 25 years there will be hardly any union jobs left in the manufacturing sector. It's not economically viable. And guess what? I won't shed a tear.

99% of the union bashers that will respond to this post either cant get a union job because they  have failed an entry intelligence test to get the job

Turns out that 3 of the MANUAL laborers digging the hole for my pool failed the test for the same company that I work for. Now thats some funny sh--.

Wow, so you actually passed an exam that was also given to retards that dig holes for a living? That’s impressive.

I guess you wouldn't have gotten as much vacation time as a brain surgeon or rocket scientist huh?

;)

Apparently use of the apostrophe and other hugely complex subjects are not covered on the Spikes' union exam!;)

Do you really think labor cost is determined by fair supply and demand? There is the free movement of capital, but there is no free movement of labor. Or have you tried to get a job in China recently?

Imagine that. A union guy protecting the institution that allows him to be a lazy $h*t.

The place of the union in our society has long outlived it's usefulness. I'd quit my job before I was ever forced to join a stinkin' union.

There's union idiots protesting here in Rochester because companies have decided to use cheaper American labor from Syracuse and Buffalo. These are people who work in skilled trades like masonry. They'd rather have a cookout in front of Kohl's than work. Lazy bastards.

And at the same time I can't find a decent mason to fix my front porch. Lazy bastards would rather picket than earn a fair wage.

Unions suck ass. I've got so many dumbass union stories just from working 6 years at Kodak I could write a book.
