  1. Always good for some memories. Merry Christmas!
  2. two things: 1) Horrible announcing. For example, the bills were in the middle of a 27-0 run, and the announcers were saying without a hint of irony "that's the thing about the Patriots, they dont' get phased - they just keep coming at you" as if they were rolling over the bills after a random touchdown. 2) Anybody notice Brady give up on the Florence int - he clearly could have made contact with him and very possible stopped the touchdown but he completely gave up.
  3. they are the expensive seats, with the inside section for everyone to watch the TV's. Those seats were in the sun today so people probably preferred the AC.....(go figure)
  4. Watching all the news about the violence in Mexico, I'm surprised that there isn't much discussion (that I've seen at least) about the fact that this is coming about because of the huge demand for drugs in America. I'm not trying to start a discussion on drug use, but it seems like in the old days half of the conversation would be about the cause of the problem. Things get wild in the middle east and you can't go a day without hearing "dependence on foreign oil", but Mexico is spiraling out of control and there isn't much talk about the US dependence on pot and coke. just something I noticed.....
  5. The ambulance hit the back end of the car that was in the middle of the intersection, sending it sideways into the sidewalk and hitting the bystander. I was across the street and turned when I heard the brakes / thud of the impact and saw the car going sideways. Horrible situation all around - can't imagine how the ambulance driver felt when he heard there was a serious injury.
  6. I saw a pretty bad accident the other day in NYC that was caused by an ambulance with lights on running a red light, hitting a car which then careened into some poor guy on the sidewalk. The ambulance stopped for a moment, drove about 40 feet - slowed down again as if they didn't know what to do and then drove off (possibly because they saw the owner of the car jump out and it seemed like he was ok - though the guy on the sidewalk was not). Just curious what the procedure in those cases is - as I'm sure they either had someone in the back they needed to get to the hospital, or another emergency they needed to get to.
  7. This is the last for discovery, but i think there is one more shuttle launch after this one. Sad to see them go but it sounds like they've outlived their usefulness. A year ago I watched Endeavor take off - one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. This video was taken from about 20 feet from where I was sitting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg9JrtancNM
  8. or asking if anyone knew of any online currency converters.
  9. Rex doesn't bother me that much - he's loud but he calls it like it is, he takes his licks when he deserves them and after the games he is nothing but respectful. If he was our coach we would be in love with the guy.
  10. does anybody have a screenshot from tivo? I missed the last quarter and would LOVE to see that....
  11. I was ok with the pats winning through their first super bowl, the season after but then when they got good again their fans entirely forgot that 10 years earlier they had 15,000 season ticket holders and nobody cared. And they became insufferable - most pats fans would prefer to laugh at your team for losing than celebrate their team for winning - a very odd dynamic. That said, they are really f'ing good and they don't get any better than brady and his evil coach. Brady's first few season was mostly dink and dunk, but he is awesome now - no getting around it. They take crappy players nobody else cares about and turn them into stars - then they leave and do nothing. (see branch, deion)
  12. This is what it looked like in Philly at kickoff time: http://deadspin.com/5718440/heres-what-philadelphia-looked-like-around-the-moment-the-eaglesvikings-game-was-supposed-to-start Look at this another way - if this was the patriots / colts in Foxboro and the Pats had a clear home field advantage in the snow - do you think there is a chance in H*ll that they would have canceled the game? nope.
  13. how many times has this happened in the past (a game being canceled because of weather)? This sets a pretty big precedent - if the weather is bad the NFL may cancel your game. What is deemed bad? 12 inches? 6 inches and lots of wind?
  14. I disagree. I've watched about half the jets game this year and have to say that he looks pretty good for a second year QB.
  15. Right, because a 94 year old man who has accomplished all sorts of things in life would probably hate to see a super bowl win to top it all off.
  16. he sued the thruway authority. they'd still be there if it wasn't for him.
  17. personally I don't think the "reid was checked already" is fraud - it is more likely dumb voters not realizing their finger was nearby. If you are going to do voter fraud on a machine, you do it on the back end. (and for the record, I hate electronic voting machines - way too much chance for fraud). Or, if you are in Hoboken - you pay people $40 to work on election day but only if they vote by mail. And then you help them fill out the ballot... http://hobokenhorse.blogspot.com/2010/10/tim-occhipinti-street-money-time-has.html
  18. good questions. These days in NYC there are probably only about 10 (if that) restaurants that wouldn't let you in with jeans, otherwise it isn't a big deal. It's the sports t-shirts that made them look like crap. Adult or kids, looking like crap in a nice place is looking like crap in a nice place. If a famous actor was there wearing jeans and a nike t-shirt I would have said he looked like crap as well. I don't spend my days worrying about stuff like this (or going to nice restaurants), but was just making a point that I understand why places have a dress code, and that if they do I like to follow them...
  19. I'm not big into the fancy stuff - but if I do go to a nice place I want it to feel nice. Wife and I went to anniversary dinner in NYC a few months ago at a nice place that has a stated jacket policy. Great food, great atmosphere but I'd be lying if I said i wasn't slightly annoyed that a family came and sat down nearby with the kids in jeans and t-shirts texting the whole time. Not a giant deal, but really guy - you can't make your 11 year old put on a button down for an hour when you decide you want to eat at a nice place?
  20. I'll play devils advocate here. You run one of the nicer restaurants in town, and your bread and butter is high end corporate lunches and dinners. Everything about your restaurant is to make those people feel comfortable and come back. And that girl has probably been yelled at once or twice for letting in someone looking a bit grubby. So 5 guys walk in wearing shorts and baseball hats and she says "sorry guys, can't do it". She's making $10 / hour plus tips and the real issue is that she wasn't quick enough to make an exception or say "if you don't mind taking off your hats we'll be all set". If it was anyone other than war vets, nobody would care and would probably agree with her. Personally it is a little annoying when I go to a nice place for a nice dinner and then watch people dressed like slobs come and sit down. Just as big of an issue here is the fact that in today's world an event like this makes the news....
  21. they are freeing up space to make jeff george the highest paid QB in bills history.
  22. that would be pretty amazing - it will go for a ton. Before the olympics the team came through buffalo and practiced (maybe even played a game - not sure). I have a puck that my sister grabbed when it bounced out of the ice - says 1980 Mens Olympic hockey team - sort of cool.
