  1. Many may believe it, but when nobody has food, water, a house or much else, then there is only the primal equality of shared circumstance.
  2. there is that log cabin group, but I doubt they would be in New Orleans.
  3. I saw on CNN that that song will not be played in Canada until this is over.
  4. I didn't take the time to read this thread, but would just like to say that the Bush twins should be driving a speedboat down the mississippi to save refugees......either that, or they should be parachuting in with water.
  5. This is an environmental disaster. Sludge, debris, heavy metals, toxins, etc. are probably going to make the Love Canal clean-up look like a picnic in comparison.
  6. I don't need a pretty face. Bring back Irv Weinstein. He might have been a star on 24 hour cable news.
  7. I paid $2.85 this morning 60 miles south of Buffalo. Just over $40 to fill a 14.5 gallon tank. Highest on TSW wins all of our sympathy. Edit: don't know how I missed this thread, sorry guys.
  8. I guess I see what your trying to say: the economic trauma won't reach the scale of 9-11. That remains to be seen, but, I think in terms of a national story, the scale of this has already caused an economic dislocation for 500,000 to 1,000,000 people that are refugees. That may not change macroeconomic fundamentals, but that aint chump change either. What other event has made upward of 1M people homeless and possibly unemployed overnight? You might be right, the rest of us emotionally raw and unempathetic to a macro economic\historical assessment right about now. (you could at least concede national in scale and I'll go away )
  9. Are you sure you want to stick with this assesment? Maybe I am missing something, but if the military is mobilized, parts of five states are emergency regions, the president flies over, the congress puts together a relief package, the economy is influenced and markets spike, and thousands of americans are dead, what exactly qualifies as a national event?
  10. You did see I wrote Bhutan, I thought that was a good double jeopardy answer.
  11. If the Islamic world was to demonstrate compassion, what kind of demonstration would satisfy you?
  12. It's good, but I want to see the goalpost back on the goal-line. Has moving it back to the endline really enhanced our enjoyment of the game? You could use it as a nice pick, or drive a defender into that sucker.
  13. If 80% is the estimate of people that evacuated, my Catholic math estimates that 96,000 people stayed for one reason or another.
  14. Usually the offers for aid in disasters are pretty prefunctory, they are offered through the ambassadors, but in the case of the US, I imagine they will be declined with thanks. Hardly newsworthy.
  15. I think I found it! No, wait............. it was just some guy asking for directions, but i'll keep waiting too.
  16. Well, I guess Plant and Page could do a benefit, but they aren't German, are they?
  17. I got slight chuckle out of all the morning women newscasters this morning contorting their faces as not to smile. The smile thing is just reflex, they look awful trying to put on serious faces.
  18. if you mean from the US, I had good prices last year on US air out of Philly. Oct/Nov is not so crowded and you should be able to get by with a light jacket in the mornings.
