Why I think Marrone should be fired...

I'd really like to know what defenders of Marrone like about him. Some tangible examples. None of this "they play hard for him" crap. Not even sure how true it is, but in any case, that's such a low bar to set. Players played hard for Jauron also. I'll give him hiring two good defensive coaches and getting the hell out of the way. But what else is there?

By all accounts, his specialty is offense. The offense has added better players, yet gotten worse. Everyone is quick to blame Hackett for the offense, yet also say the defense is run by Schwartz. If true, what is Marrone's actual function here?

What I've seen in the time he's been here that can be directly attributed to him:

- horrible clock management

- gutless 4th down play calling

- mismanaging the roster (sitting Urbik was borderline criminal...the line looks so much better with him in there, as even the average fan could have predicted)

- bumbling press conferences where he tries to explain some of his bone-headed decisions

Maybe he's a nice guy behind the scenes. Maybe he's not. But the guy is a complete meathead as a head coach and we'll never make the playoffs with him.

Such a shame, as this is actually a pretty talented team and a coach's primary function should be to get the best out of the roster he is given. In that respect, I really think he's the worst coach the Bills have had in the 25 years I've been watching this team.

Show me an account that has said he's an offensive specialist. Please. Not some speculative article.

You do realize that many HC's in this league allow both the offense and defense to be run by their coordinators? Not every HC is a Rex Ryan/Chan Gailey who runs one part.

We play Green Bay before Oakland.

Even a competitive loss at Denver, followed by beating Oakland, should give them momentum coming home to play Green Bay.

Barring a complete disaster I don't think Marrone is fired.

I think Hughes may sign elsewhere regardless as I just don't know if we can afford him. You can only put so much money into one area of the team and you'll be needing to pay Dareus big $$ here too. The only way I see us signing him if if we don't bother trying to re-sign Spikes. Personally I think we need the run stopper more, last year had the same line minus Spikes, look how they played. Though I will say this Schwartz is known for being good at stoping the run, so he may be able to mold one of the other LB's into a great run stopper. If he can do that, then I'd be OK with letting Spikes go and using the money on Hughes, but just don't think we can afford both and fill other needs too. Regardless of the amount of money Terry is willing to spend, still have ot deal with a salary cap too.

My worry is Jerry Hughes does not seem to like Marrone.... We need Hughes more than we need Marrone. Unless you bring in a superstar HC... I think Hughes is gone.

He was an offensive lineman as a player. And he coached tight ends and offensive linemen before becoming an OC in New Orleans. His experience lies on the offensive side of the ball. Can't see how that's even debatable.

However, I do agree with you that he's not an offensive specialist. A specialist implies some level of competence.

As for your second point, if he's allowing the three phases of the game to be run by his coordinators, what exactly is his job during the game? Other than deciding to punt on 4th and inches or flipping a coin to decide whether he should use a timeout.

What I've seen in the time he's been here that can be directly attributed to him:

- horrible clock management - Hard to dispute this one.

- gutless 4th down play calling - And if he went for it and didn't make them ... "what a moron going for it on 4th down there!".

- mismanaging the roster (sitting Urbik was borderline criminal...the line looks so much better with him in there, as even the average fan could have predicted) Some if not most of this comes from the coordinators I imagine.

- bumbling press conferences where he tries to explain some of his bone-headed decisions - I file this under who gives a ****

Comments added above.

I see nothing here worthy of impeachment above except for clock management which he surely sucks at.

For sure I don't think he treads water. So if I have to point out the flaws, I would choose some occasional clock management, too many penalties and sticking with Hackett in the offseason.

But that is not worth getting rid of him. For incompetence, see Mike Smith. For the life of me I can't understand how he continues to be a HC. Every season, I watch the occasional Falcons game and am sure that buffoon will be let go in the offseason and every offseason I have been proven wrong.

So he has some experience on offense, great. That means our offense should look good or else he's incompetent?

When has Marrone punted on 4th and inches? Are we making things up to prove a point?

Marrone's job, like many HC's, is to manage his underlings. You cannot simultaneously blame him for one side of the ball. and give him no credit for the other.

A question with a question. Fine. I'd like him to be able to manage the clock. At least as well as some kid playing Madden can. What's your ideal scenario?

So sitting players because his coordinators told him to is nothing to be alarmed about? Him agreeing with them to bench Urbik is bad enough. Him disagreeing and then caving in to them is worse, if that's what you mean.

Thanks for playing.

Some experience? The entirety of his experience is on the offensive side of the ball. He is incompetent for various reasons. One of which is the fact that the offense has regressed under his watch. Like I said, I give him credit for hiring a good defensive staff and staying out of the way. But that's really it.

Come on man...he punted on 4th and inches in the KC game. Wasn't that long ago. And also another 4th and one in that game for good luck!

...Still waiting for one tangible example of what his defenders like about him.

Um, actually, no.

He punted on fourth and one...in their own territory. And a false start set us back to fourth and sixth at another point in the game.

Why are you making things up?

And, oh by the way, this dreaded punt on 4th and 1 everyone wants to !@#$ing B word about: IT WORKED

We pinned them down to the three yard line, forced them to punt on a short field, then McKelvin ran back to the 25.

So...what was the problem with that call again?

If its any consolation I happen to agree with you.

For the life of me I just don't get why some fans are so adamant about protecting, defending a coach this bad with the offense. Fielding one of the very worst O lines in the NFL. The O line- offense is his forte, and the deniers just refuse to admit it. It isn't debatable. This is like defending Gailey, and his choices for DC's (Edwards & Wannstedt) who were both so horrible at their jobs. I for one don't care to wait another 3-5 years while this man figures out what he doesn't know to be a decent NFL HC, that is "if" he ever does.

What else isn't debatable is the fact that the Bills offense is one of the worst in the league, and the very worst in red zone TD's. This season the buffalo Bills are fielding a championship defense that is currently #4 in total defense, #4 in passing, #8 in rushing, #4 in turnover differential, and #1 in sacks with 46 -#5 in interceptions.

The defense won't be able to maintain, or increase those numbers against the better teams if they don't have a decent run game with the bad upcoming winter weather. In the past 12 games the Bills didn't even try to establish a dominate run game in most of those games, and even when their run game was dominating at averaging 5.0 yards per carry. That happened against the #1 pass defense in the league, and that to me is simply beyond stupid.

The Bills finally have an owner who has so much money that paying for a top NFL head coach won't ever be an issue again, and that lone factor has been holding this team back for the last 14 years. With better coaching you have a better staff, better drafts, better personnel, better schemes and more wins. Just like the NE Patriots, who the Bills need to compete with to ever get anywhere in the division.

You just can't hide a bad run game, O line, offensive play calling against the better teams behind a great defense. Sadly, the Bills don't play the Jets again this year. Ultimately the offense will drag the defense down to its level, and we will see that perhaps against Cleveland. Almost certainly against Denver, Green Bay, and New England. Five more to go.

It bothers me when people throw rankings without any context. Are the Bills the very worst team in the NFL inside the RedZone? Actually no they aren't, that distinction belongs to San Francisco(40% scoring percentage), which is humorous because people want Harbaugh to come here. The Bills are 30th at 43%.

So can we just attach that number to Marrone/Hackett and just say it's their fault? I don't think you can. The players still need to execute. The number includes 4 games of EJ Manuel who just refused throw the ball to his WR or TE's. With EJ in the first 4 games the Bills had a 37% scoring percentage. With Orton at QB the Bills have had a 47% scoring percentage in the RedZone which includes 2 games were they were at 0%. That 47% while not great would move them up 7 places. But look at the KC game for example, Bryce Brown fumbled the ball and Kyle Orton missed 2 wide open receivers. Is that Marrone/Hacketts fault? To me that seems more like player execution, Marrone/Hackett can't throw the ball and they can't not fumble the ball either. Let's say for arguments sake that Kyle Orton acutally hits the wide open receivers and Brown doesn't fumble the ball, that would raise the scoring percentage since Kyle has been the starting QB to 58%, that's good enough for top 10 in the league.

This isn't a Marrone does anything wrong post because I believe there are things that he does wrong. I just don't get why all the offensive troubles have to be thrown at his feet. He's had a journeyman QB and a rookie QB. The best teams in the league in the RedZone are lead by franchise and elite QB's, which I tend to think has a bit more to do with it then the coaching staff.

Have any other teams made mistakes in the red zone this year or only Bryce Brown and EJ? Should we adjust their stats too?

If we had only scored every time we'd be 100%. Why can't people see that and leave poor Doug alone?

Our mistakes on offense lie not only in the red zone but also in the green, purple, blue, orange and magenta zones. And in the players we activate versus those in the doghouse. And play calling. And everything to do with the offense. There is actual talent on O. I will grant that the QB position is limited. The rest is on the coaching.

Some people like Marrone. Some people hate Marrone. Get over it people. All this back and forth trash, spewing the same things over and over....and over and over. He's our coach right now and will be til the end of the season, at least. Get on board and root for our boys. Ill be at the Ralph this Sunday, losing my voice rooting for the my boys! But why target Marrone for the ineptitude of the offense ? As for players in the doghouse, Robert Woods was in his doghouse in the summer but Woods performance in games has indicated that he is a bit mercurial. He has the talent but does appear to dog it sometimes. Which vindicates Marrone. I grant you that the OL staffing has been less than perfect but then again no second year coach can be expected to be perfect.

If you stil insist on blaming Marrone for the O, then you should give him credit for the top-5 D and the ST.

Nope, only EJ and Bryce Brown have made mistakes. That's it. That's obviously what I wrote. At least you are willing to agree the QB position was limited, that must have been hard to do.
