If I had to guess this was due diligence when looking for a backup QB when it was just Lewis and Tuel, but they obviously weren't willing to give up a lot and I'm sure the Pats* wanted a lot it Mallet was traded within the division. And yes, I did know and took into consideration they were going to lose him next year. They were going to lose him because they didn't want him.
