Should the New Ownership Fire GM and Coaches?

After one season? Heck no!

This would be the most irresponsible move imaginable and would set this team in reverse for another (2) years before they could move forward again.

 

Whaley, Marrone and Hackett have been groomed for their positions and have the pedigree at this point that qualifies them to have the keys to the team for at least the next (4) seasons.

Let them keep the keys!

Let them drive the course and figure it out even with some speed bumps along the way. Great coaches and GMs take time to develop. Sometimes many, many seasons. There are lots of examples out there.

Mike Shanahan- Winning season at 4th year.

Jeff Fischer- Did not have a winning season until year (6)

What if the GM and coaches pulled the old switcheroo and folded their arms and said, "We aren't leaving. Make us. We're not going away." Through it back in El Pegual's face. Then what would he do?

I'd be surprised if new ownership fires Whaley unless the owner has an experienced GM person he's real close too. Marrone, possibly, but likely would also get one more year. I do see Hackert going unless EJ improves. I've posted in other threads where people are crying that when EJ fails this year we don't have a #1 next year to get a new QB. instead what will happen is, if EJ looks real bad and regresses, likely Hackert would be canned and they bring in another OC who runs a different scheme supposedly more suited to EJ's strengths.

The current GM/Coach made it a bit harder for the new owner to attract a top coach or GM and maybe bought time. How? The Watkins trade ensures that the new coach and GM come in without a 1st round pick. That would make it less attractive to top candidates next year. If Watkins pans out, they likely have a good year and stay on regardless. If he does not, it means EJ likely demonstrates that he is not as good as the current staff says. With no 1st, there is no chance of a star QB in year one and year 2 of the new coach/GM is likely under a rookie QB. That is 2 years of losing staring a new administration in the face.

 

So, as I see it, they likely stay on if they win this year, and made it easier to stay on if they lose.

No. To build a winning team takes time, obviously. Marrone clearly knows what he is doing and Whaley has done some things we need. Hackett, on the other hand, is one i would probably let go if we don't improve our offense this year. I think we need to be very patient - we have tons of talent and we are very young. But again, we have been patient for the past 15 years.

Russ Brandon is there to stay. He is making presentations to the bidders and was Ralph's main man. He understands the regionalization attempts and is a PR expert and native of western NY.

 

Doug Whaley has been active and the team's roster is the strongest in years due to his work with Buddy and on his own.

 

Marrone is a well respected coach and just has to put his vision into place. Now... Hackett may be his BIGGEST Problem. We'll have to wait and see here.

I'd like to see a coaching staff be given more than three years to turn around a team, but I know the NFL demands results right away. If Marrone and company don't make the playoffs this year, I really wouldn't be surprised if they all get let go. I believe we are going in the right direction with the talent on our team, but I think our schedule makes it difficult to show that improvement in our record. So I guess we'll see what happens.

However if Harbaugh becomes available Pegula should PAY THE MAN and hire him immediately!

This team needs to show clear improvement, and not stagnation like they did last year. There is far to much talent on this team to only go 6-10, and it was all on the coaches & GM for a multitude of stupid mistakes.

 

Their fate is in their own hands, and I can see new ownership keeping the status quo even with a 7-8 / 8-8 record as long as the team fights hard in every game.

It is way too early to have this conversation.

 

We need to see how the team does this year, how Marrone and his staff look this year, how EJ looks this year, and who the new owner is.

 

All these factors will impact what changes are made, if any, rolling forward.

 

Having said that, the odds are new ownership will clean house.

Harbaugh isn't going anywhere. More espn gibberish. he wants to be paid like a SB winning coach. he has a year left. They negotiated then said we will wait until the end of this season. Actually Harbaugh wanted to get on with the business of football not money talk.End of story. Didn't even read the link didn't have too. All is well in niner country.
