The month of August arrives, which means that kids are about to head back to school and football is about to start. It also signals the end of the Summer movie season. Despite several quality films, box office numbers are down, and normally this month is seen as a footnote amongst the more profitable months of summer. However, Disney & Marvel intend to change that by ending the summer with a big bang.

Disney & Marvel present their next impending big franchise, "Guardians of the Galaxy". In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. Breaking from tradition, this is not a superhero story, but rather a science fiction involving a group of misfit anti-heroes. While it is not as main stream as The Avengers, this group does have it's following. Early whispers had said that this movie could be Disney's Star Wars, before they bought Star Wars. This bold move by Disney & Marvel appears to be paying off. A sequel is already in the works, critics are giving the movie very high marks, and the public is curious to see something fresh from the Marvel universe. Get ready to see lots of Guardians memorabilia around, because it's here to stay. Starring Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, Djimon Honsou, Benicio Del Toro & Glenn Close.

Nine years later the sequel to Sin City comes to us with, "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For". The town's most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants. The ensemble cast includes: Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, Josh Brolin, Eva Green, Juno Temple, Jaime King, Jamie Chung & Alexa PenaVega. Directed by Robert Rodriguez & Frank Miller.

Old school action is back again with "The Expendables 3". Barney and his team, known as "The Expendables", come into conflict with ruthless arms dealer Conrad Stonebanks, the Expendables' co-founder, who is determined to destroy the team. Starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Kelsey Grammer, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Kellen Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Glenn Powell, Victor Ortiz, Robert Davi, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson & Harrison Ford.

Paramount Pictures brings us "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett & William Fichtner.

Chadwick Boseman stars in "Get On Up". A chronicle of James Brown's rise from extreme poverty to become one of the most influential musicians in history. Also starring Nelsan Ellis, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer & Dan Aykroyd.

Hellen Mirren stars in "The Hundred-Foot Journey". The Kadam family clashes with Madame Mallory, proprietress of a celebrated French restaurant, after they open their own nearby eatery, until undeniable chemistry causes the Madame to take gifted young chef Hassan under her wing. Also starring Om Puri, Manish Dayal & Charlotte Le Bon.

Pierce Brosnan is "The November Man". An ex-CIA operative is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect. Also starring Olga Kurylenko, Eliza Taylor, Luke Bracey & Will Patton.

In "The Giver", In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the "real" world. Starring Brenton Thwaites, Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep & Taylor Swift.

Jim Caviezel stars in "When the Game Stands Tall". The journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport. Also starring Alexander Ludwig, Michael Chiklis & Laura Dern.

Chloe grace Moretz stars in "If I Stay". Life changes in an instant for young Mia Hall after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had imagined. Also starring Mireille Enos, Liana Liberato & Jamie Blackley.

"As Above, So Below", is a thriller centered on two archaeologists in search of a lost treasure in the catacombs below Paris. Starring Edwing Hodge, Ben Feldman & Perdita Weeks.

In "Into the Storm", Storm trackers, thrill-seekers, and everyday townspeople document an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes touching down in the town of Silverton. Starring Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh & Max Deacon.

In "Let's Be Cops", Two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party and become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted "heroes" get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line. Starring Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr., Nina Dobrev & Angela Kerecz.

Finally in "Step Up All In", All-stars from the previous Step Up installments come together in glittering Las Vegas, battling for a victory that could define their dreams and their careers. Starring Ryan Guzman & Briana Evigan.

I can still sing the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme song. I will likely go see this movie. I was quite literally obsessed with them from 3rd grade on for some time - probably until I discovered better things to do with my time.

I ate cold pizza every day for lunch in fourth grade because I liked the ninja turtles so much.

'Cause when I think of "old school action," the first name that springs to mind is Kelsey Grammer.

guardians looks like a movie that could be a lot of fun. some real oddball characters there and as a bonus, john c. reilly is in it. i would also like to see the new sin city movie. the original was so incredibly well done. from it's stylized imagery to the star studded cast, it was very fresh and incredibly well done. and the turtles movie...they are a part of my youth, william fichtner is in it, that's pretty much all i need.

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy on Thursday and laughed my ass off through most of it, despite the fact that...well, apparently 3D doesn't work on me. The writing is solid for a comedy, and the action is fun.

If you aren't looking for anything serious or heavy, it's a good time.

I *WILL* be seeing the new Sin City, and am interested in the November Man and Expendables 3.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy....

I don't say this lightly, but it was the most entertaining movie I have ever seen. Is it the best movie ever? Nope. But it was wonderfully engaging. Pulls you in and gets you emotionally invested right off the bat. Then the movie is filled with action, suspense, and irreverent humor. Just perfect. It's crazy that such an odd movie ends up being Marvel's best to date.

THIS.

I took my daughter to see this movie, and it's been many years since I've seen a movie that I enjoyed this much.

a MUST see, IMO.

Be forewarned, this movie has disaster written all over it. For the longest time this movie was originally titled "Ninja Turtles".

Michael Bay, who is producing this movie, did not like the Teenage Mutant part of the title, but eventually gave in.

Long delays in production and shooting and very little hype were other warning signs.

It took a long time for this movie to get a release date, and when it finally did, it was placed one week after "Guardians of the Galaxy".

Don't be surprised if this movie is on dvd by September.

oh this is a Michael Bay movie? I can't wait for the helicopter in the sunset shot!

Seriously, did not know that and it makes sense now why the movie is PG13. The original movies were great. This probably will suck. Damn it

Another sign this film will be complete garbage is that there is a review embargo up until it hits theaters.

Finally saw "Guardians of the Galaxy", and I have to agree with all of you. This movie was a lot of fun and very entertaining.

Marvel & Disney have done it again. To bring a story from a comic book that is not as well known and to turn it into what is probably the best movie of the summer is no small feat.

You have to give a lot of credit to director & co-writer James Gunn, an unknown, for crafting this tale. Chris Pratt is definitely moving up to stardom, and Zoe Saldana was very good too.

Sure enough, a sequel is already in the works and is scheduled for June 2017. Bravo, Marvel! You sure know what you are doing.

As for Disney, all I can say is: Bring on "Star Wars: Episode VII"!!!
