CJ Spiller discussed FA today

Recommended Posts

Spiller is the perfect guy to franchise twice. Use him two more seasons, pay him well but avoid a long term deal, avoid a huge signing bonus, and avoid a cap hit in the later years of a long contract/... then let him walk.

No reason whatsoever to sign him to a long term deal.

#9 and a RB signed thru just this season isn't getting you into the top 5.

Agreed, and he isn't worth anything close to a second round pick. They would be lucky (imo) to get a 4th.

And btw I am not calling for a trade but if it happens, I have a feeling that the Bills will somehow recover from this staggering loss.

I know I will.

Disagree here. Richardson fetched a #1 pick less than a year ago. Spiller is worth that as well. Lucky to get a 4th? That's your anti-Spiller bias speaking.

I would not complain about a 2nd rounder for him. Don't think we can get a 2nd rounder for him though. I still think he can be very good or special. But, not sure if the coaches and FO think so. So, if they trade him I don't think the coaches or FO believe in him anymore.....so, I would be fine with the trade.

Well, from comments that Marrone made throughout the season, I get the feeling the current coaching staff doesn't completely buy into Spiller. For me, I am more sold on Spiller than I am the current coaching staff.

People seem quick to forget the season that Spiller had in 2012 (under a different coaching staff), as well as the fact that Spiller played the majority of last season with a high ankle sprain. Now, if he goes out and has a season, more like 2012, will everyone still think we should run him out of town?

We are getting at the point where any move that anybody makes is some indication that somebody is on their way out, or "needs to go".... the Bills sign a free-agent D-linemen? Okay, that is it...Dareus is as good as gone after this season...it is getting absurd.

I suppose there could be another sucker out there like Indy, but I would not bet on it.

Maybe a team like Denver that would mortgage its future for a SB win before Manning is gone. Each season is do or die with them. Spiller would be an outstanding addition to their offense. For other teams not in that scenario, I don't think they would give up a 1st. or 2nd, this year.

It seems that the "public perception" around the NFL, is that Spiller is not utilized properly, or is at least under-utililized in Buffalo. I lean toward that opinion too. Not sure if his spotty use in 2013 was the result of playcalling, or his ongoing injury situation, but we saw in 2012 that the guy can be a major playmaker. And, even with injury, he showed a some good stuff in 2013.

I am telling you right now, He is trade bait come May 8th. just wait and see. I can see him packaged with another pick to move up or for say a 2nd or 3rd rounder to the right team (Raiders?)

You gonna make another apology thread if CJ doesn't get traded ?

The blind soothsayer routine is played.

If the Bills do want to trade Spiller, I sure hope there are a few GMs that feel this way!

I have no doubt, if Spiller were on the trade market, there would be more than a few teams interested. What you can get for him, is another story. But, given the whole story about the Eagles interest, which never reached serious discussion, who knows where the Bills stand. it was rumored they were prepared to offer a 5th rounder for him...obviously the Bills aren't going to make that deal. But, if they had any interest at all in trading him, you would think all the rumors surrounding the situation would not have included the caveot that the Bills were not interested in even discussing it.

The agent he hires will speak volumes about his intentions. If it's Parker, package him up for shipment before the draft - just to make sure everything works out for him, like it did for Byrd.

Yeah...if he picks Parker, it may indicate that he doesn't view himself as the useless POS that so many Bills fans seem to think of him as. What a punk!

Just stop with the Spiller hate.. My God, outside of Freddy who on this team exemplifies solid work ethic and team ownership than Spiller? He embraced the Bills when drafted, and sat behind Lynch and Fred patiently waiting his turn. The guy is a quality human being, and every bit a Bill than any other player in History. I say we lock him up now while the price for running backs is at an all time low. :)

Agreed. If I was a team, I'd be a total sucker for wanting a running back with a career 5.1 yards per carry. Here is the all time list in NFL histroy: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/rush_yds_per_att_career.htm Of the top 18, 12-15 were Qbs, so the number is inflated. In 3 games, Spiller will tied 12th place ALL TIME, .1 yard behind Jim Brown! Clearly, Spiller is a problem and not talented.

Of course SPiller should worry about free agency. running backs get treated like dog crap and old pornstars. They get used and abused. Spiller needs to get every penny he can get will he can.

I don't know why Bills fans do this. Aaron Schobel Syndrome. Blame our good players for the problems. Some times I think guys like Stevie Johnson and Spiller should go so that some Bills fans will appreciate how good they really are.

I agree with this sentiment - but I do not think the FO agrees with us (unfortunately)

Disagree. IF you eliminate all Spiller's long runs, he sucks. :)
