They should feel pretty good about four of their five starters up front. Unfortunately, they lost left guard Andy Levitre to the Titans in free agency, which could really hurt, particularly for a run game that should be strong. Cooper is a great guard, a player capable of challenging for a trip to Hawaii as a rookie. Given the situation at QB, the Bills should take advantage of the opportunity to fill the biggest void they have up front. EDIT: my hope is that some savvy person at OBD (yeah right, I know) planted this seed in Kiper's hairnest in order to scare the Cowboys (who covet Cooper) into trading up to 8, allowing us to trade down and get the guy we *really* want (Manuel?)... Even if this guy is a good pick, it's unlikely he will be as good (and as durable) as Levitre, at least in his first two years. So your #1 pick doesn't really improve your team at all; you are just running in place. That's not to say the Bills should have matched the mega contract the Titans gave Levitre. The Bills should have extended Levitre in year 2 or 3, when it was apparent that he was a solid player. But to finally make a good draft choice (Levitre), live through his growing pains and then lose him after just 4 years as he enters the prime of his career illustrates just how bad this front office is, and why it has been so long since we made the playoffs. smapdi Posted April 4, 2013 Share Posted April 4, 2013 I would be disgusted with this pick. I can't fathom a OG at 8 but at least go after Warmack if they're dead set on it. They should have just resigned Levitre if that's whats in store for our 1st. I still don't get why everyone, everywhere I read, thinks our line is in desperate shape. I think it is the strength of the offense. We don't need to spend a top 10 pick on a fricken guard. If anything, they need to trade down and get extra picks. KOKBILLS Posted April 4, 2013 Share Posted April 4, 2013 I'm still saying no way the Bills go OG at #8...It really makes no sense from a philosophy standpoint...And I've made this argument here already when McShay's Mock came out...These guys are just matching biggest UFA loss to BPA on their board and going with it...They're ignoring the fact that the Bills do not value the OG position the way some teams do...If they did, they would have paid Levitre...And again Buddy has said on several occasions the Bills don't Draft OG's, they Draft OT's and move them in to OG if they can't cut it on the edge...In fact even Doug Whaley said the same when asked about Cordy Glenn before the 2012 Draft... So anyway...I don't think for a second the Bills will take an OG at #8...You never want to say never, especially when Buddy is in charge...No telling what he is capable of screwing up...But I really don't believe it's a possibility...Kiper and McShay should do just a little bit of homework and look at what each team believes from a philosophy standpoint before they assign picks...If they did, their Mocks would be far more accurate...As if they care... Bills lose a guard, they mush draft a guard, slick back hair get paid millions. It's laughable how much stock put into guys like Kiper & Mayock. They have a combined 0 years in a NFL front office. They miss more than they hit but they have 0 accountability. It's purely entertainment but folks treat it as gospel. It's silly. Serviceable guards are fairly easy to find. Now, if we were a superbowl contending team and our only open starting spot was at G, then this pick would be great. If you look around the league there are really good guards that have come in the mid to late rounds as well as undrafted. It just is not that difficult of a position to fill (even this front office has had a good amount of success in finding guys). There are other positions that you cannot say the same thing about. When was the last time that you saw a really solid street free agent rush the passer? Play QB or CB (Jabari Greer is the only exception that I can think of)? Mock drafts and real drafts don't have much in common - but many of these guys who put out mock drafts also put out big boards and rate players- to me if that mock draft has your team and your team only taking guys rated 25-30 with the 8th pick and guys rated 110-140 with the 41st pick (not talking about Kiper per say) it's a not too subtle way of saying he thinks your team is incompetent.
