Rd 7, Pick #25: K John Potter - Western Michigan

Recommended Posts

So the fact that this guy is an instant touchback has no value to you?

With the new rules, every kicker is an instant touchback if he wants to be.

I like Nix. I liked the draft this year. I don't find the need to defend every pick, nor do I find the need to try to convince others that I'm the smartest man in the room all of the time.

Check yourself. You've been acting like an ass all day.

Put On The Team - Expect Repercussions.

Holy Shite! We'd only have to get to our OWN 37 yard line at the end of a 2 minute drill to kick the game winning field goal.

Those touchbacks were kicked off from the 30.

If I were Lindel - I'd be eating my Wheaties.

Well that's where a kicker is usually drafted....lindell is getting pretty long in the tooth....and hasn't been able to kick the ball super deep or out of bounds like everyone else does now to get the return game out of the equation...anyone got any info on this kid

thats a penalty if done by the kicker. on punts, ok.

another wasted pick, ain't no way this guy makes the team unless we cut Lindell. We could have had Tommy Streeter in the 6th and BJ Coleman in the 7th if we didn't panic for Graham who clearly still would have been there. Our last pick could have been Levy Adcock who as a tackle has more upside than Asper.

Hilarious. Read Buddy's draft transcript on bb.com and then come back to apologize for yourself.

1 -- the kicker is a KO specialist, no intention of cutting Lindell.

2 -- "panic" for Graham? Sorry he wasn't on your draft board.

3 -- Asper was drafted to play CENTER and GUARD. The Bills drafted two OTs (Glenn, Sanders).

There are only 53 spots. If he gets on the team and doesn't supplant Lindell, then the long snapper most likely goes. You can only keep so many specialists.

I'd rather have specialists who do there job well EVERY GAME, than an extra CB, WR or LB just in case.

Ya the definitely go overboard with that stuff around here sometimes.

Over-Board?! Ha! I get it..

Given the 'shrewdness' of the FO over the last few years, 7th Round and UDA is where we've found decent and very good players. Buddy & Co. have yet to Draft for Camp fodder and I don't believe for a second this is the case here.

The new KO rules now REQUIRE a strong KO leg and Lindell is long in the tooth and well compensated - most likely more than a 7thRound pick.

I say: Bills fans, welcome your new Place Kicker, John Potter.

Nix's comment about touchbacks reducing wear and tear on special teamers was interesting. I wonder if they view this guy as part of a creative way of reducing injuries.

I think so. The Bills did remarkably well utilizing Lindell's directional kicks last year, but he also got hurt on a return. The league is slowly but surely legislating the kickoff out of the game already. I'm not a big fan of "wasting" an active roster spot on a 2nd kicker, but the Bills sort of already have an "extra" spot because of the Brad Smith 3rd QB situation.

In Buddy's presser, he said if Potter can kick it out of the endzone on every attempt, he'll make the team strictly as a kickoff guy. From the looks of the video posted above, he can certainly have a strong chance to do that...

That's what a lot of people are missing. I love this pick. You have a guy who can kick it out of the end zone 42-43% of the time and you've got an AMAZING player.

I think a lot of people dogging this pick don't care much about field position. I do.
