Drafting number 10

Recommended Posts

i like him but if Bills switch back to a 4-3 what position would he play, DE or OLB

not that it matters and is obviously early but Kiper doesnt have Upshaw in his top 10 and has Luke Kuechly ILB from Boston College as his 10th best player right now

I like him a lot. He was dominant in the first half against LSU. Not so much in the second half, mostly because LSU ran away from him or doubled him. I also think that Upshaw will rise on the draft board. I do think he is stout enough to pley either LB or DE. The rap on him is that he is not super fast and is a little short at 6'2" for a DE but there are plenty of NFL guys playing at a high level at that height. He looks a little chubby at 265. I beleive he could lean out a little and play at about 260 and be a terror. He is a low risk pick, A top player on the best team, in the top conference in the country.

I love upshaw as a consistent guy and he is a surefire starter on our team. My concern as pointed out before is his speed. You can knock him for only being 6'2"but take a look at james harrison who is an absolute terror and one of the best OLB in the game and he is only 6 feet tall. Neither are very fast or tall (upshaw or Harrison) and I get comparing anyone to James Harrison is unfair but he has a similar build to harrison while adding an extra two inches in height. He could trim down a few pounds and it might help his quickness but he is the stout OLB we could use.

I watched him every play of the BCS game because i know he's got a shot at being a Bill.

He never really aggressively rushed the passer because they were playing contain on LSU most of the time. After the game he called it something like a soft rush or something like that, indicating that they didn't want to pull the Maybin and go way upfield against a very fast running qb or he would eat them up. So he only showed quickness once he identified the play.

I love his build, he looks like a small Dareus. Heavy wide lower body, thick torso. Maybe that's the Bama build or something.

For some reason I think he would make a better ILB in the NFL, and 10th overall is a little early to take someone like that unless its a Patrick Willis or an Urlacher type middleman. I think we need a pass rush specialist with that early pick, and he'll be gone by round 2 obviously.

Sorry Dareus, I don't think your buddy is coming to Buff.

Buddy described the type of pass rusher he is looking for in his presser- 6'4 or 6'5 240-250. I do like your guy, but I think we're done drafting undersized guys.

I don't remember hearing this (not to say you're wrong) but if thats so then I'd look at andre Branch. He is 6'4&1/4" and quite the dominant DE, I'm personally a huge fan of Melvin Ingram and think he is the most athletic and versatile guy but he is not much taller than upshaw.

I wouldnt mind getting upshaw him and Dareus played great together. The one thing I'm really curious about is how the Dolphins get to pick first even though they have the same record and beat the Bills twice??

1st tiebreaker in draft order is strength of schedule, not head-to-head.

Evidently the 2 games against teams that finished the spot in their division as you were weaker than the 2 we got. Cincinnati and Tennessee were both 9-7. Evidently better than the 2 teams the Fish played. Aside from those 2 games our schedules were identical.

I watched a few 2010 Alabama games in their entirety. Every time I watched the defense, 2 guys popped out, Marcel Dareus and Courtney Upshaw. I absolutely loved Dareus (he was my favorite player in last years draft.) Right after we selected Dareus the thought of pairing him with Upshaw in next years draft popped in my head (at the time I figured Upshaw would be a 10-20 1st round pick, and figured the Bills would be drafting somewhere in that range).

I'm still a fan of Upshaw's, and agree with others that he would seem to be a pretty safe pick. With that said he does look a little bit slow and doesn't seem to play with that 100% effort and pure tenacity every single play. I've seen a lot of plays that he seems to give less than his 100% on, but I think at the NFL level a lot of that can be corrected.

I do recall Nix stating that the pass rushers you ideally want are 6'4" - 260ish, so he doesn't fit the perfect mold, but Buddy won't hold that against Upshaw IMO. In the end , I'll trust Nix' and Whaley's instincts. Don't forget Whaley was particulary known for his great eye when it comes to scouting defensive prospects. Judging by Whaley and Nix' first draft together I'd say they found a few solid defensive players, and remain optimisitic they can do the same in 2012.

Upshaw will certainly be in the mix, but I just have that gut feeling they're going offense with the first pick this year.

Right now Upshaw is my pick. I think his leadership ability and his overall defensive ability are outstanding. He is not a pure pass rusher but he is a good pass rusher and he is also very good against the run. The reason that the Bills do not have sacks is that they are constantly in 3rd and short situations because they cannot stop the run.

What do you think about Courtney Upshaw at number 10?

Yes, but He's not a great pass rusher so no.

Kuechly Blows, if you think Poz tackled guys 5 yds down field you ain't seen nothin yet, plus he's inside so NO THANKS!!

I don't know how you could go wrong with that pick , If we drafted all Bama this year i don't think you could go wrong but that high he is not a reach & would be able to get immediate impact & playing time from the first game & have one less position to worry about !!

I don't think C. Upshaw is quick and he's not really fast. He appears to be very strong and good vs. the run. But his lack of quickness and speed would suggest he is not a pass rusher which is what Buffalo will be looking for with their #10 pick. I could be very wrong here as I like the way he uses his hands and I've notices that, at 6'2" and very strong, he has a dip move and is able to get under an OT to make a sack.

It's hard to say who would be a good pick at the #10 position. Upshaw is questionable because of speed and there are other Upshaw types like Mercilus and Melvin Ingram, DE from S. Carolina, that may be there for Buffalo in the 2nd. Coples is questionable because of work ethic. I wouldn't be surprised if Buffalo took an O-lineman or WR at 10.

There is an O-lineman that I really like but he plays a position where buffalo is well set. That player is OG David DeCastro who I think is the best guard to enter the draft since Steve Hutchinson. I think DeCastro is a top six pick and will be as good as Hutchinson in his prime or Logan Mankins. Would Buffalo take him? Probably not. But if they did I would feel they have added a great player to their roster.
