If you are going to do something horrific

Recommended Posts

Sorry to disappoint you there Buddy. I'll do some deep soul searching and try to figure out why I'm not moved by the horror of a bunch of soulless Taliban !@#$s getting pissed on. Those men gave their lives. They deserve better.

And they probably wouldn't mind seeing a few "soulless American !@#$s" getting pissed on. Perhaps there would be less violent death in the world if we all recognized each other, first, as human.

My point is who the !@#$ thinks it is a good idea to film something like that? Yes war is hell and atrocities are most surely are going to be committed (one of the reasons to avoid war if at all possible) but a person who thinks it's a good idea to film such an act and more importantly even with time to reflect thinks it's good idea to put it on line has something seriously wrong with him.

Our overly PC pantywaist MSM outcry is a joke and yet so predictible.

war is UGLY. it is hell. it is not pretty.

For anyone isolated back home here in your cushy office or home nice and safe and cozy to try and claim some type of moral superiority over these brave Marines is pathetic and you are ignorant.

Who knows what the context of this video is. Did these Marines witness these taliban throwing acid on defenseless women or children and pursue and kill them ? Did the dead taliban just ambush and kill some of the Marines friends moments before? we don't know what happened and who are we to judge them.

Don't even get me started on our overly PC rules of engagement.

Don't send our troops to do an ugly job for you while you happily sit home watching reality tv in the CONUS oblivious to the harsh reality of a combat soldiers every day existence if you are not willing to support them. Don't give me some crap about how we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Our troops are trained to kill people, blow things up and win. That is their job description for which they are trained.

How would our liberal media today react if they were time warped to 1944/1945 with American troops flamethrowing Japanese in caves and bunkers of Guam/Okinawa/Iwo Jima etc.. how would they react to marines raiding dead Japanese bodies as war trophies ripping gold teeth from their dead decaying lifeless bodies? Many times we weren't sure if Japanese were really trying to surrender or pretending to surrender so we shot them just to be safe. these were a few samplings of actions from "the greatest generation"

You guys are all focusing on the minutia of the characterization rather than the substance of the action. Jesus

And, no, desecration of a dead body combined with the optics of how our country is perceived worldwide is much worse than pissing on a live body.

And the fact that you find this video ¨funny¨, pretty much says everything I need to know about you

dude, the rest of the world hates America (save a few of our closest allies) regardless so is this video just going to make them really really really REALLY not like us?

War is ugly.

Dehumanizing the enemy is a way to deal with the ugliness and the requirement to kill a fellow human being. I suppose some think this is a first...they should study history.

It's always fascinating to see the public's reactions to incidents like this. What do they think combat is? We train our young men to fight in rotten places and then kill and maybe be killed and then they are all horrified when they pee on the guys who just tried to kill them.

Apparently putting a round or dozen through these guys' chests while they were alive gets a pass, but taking a tinkle on them when they're dead is horrifying?

.

Exactly. People deliberately kill other people in war. They plan to do it. And something like this is supposed to upset us? It's like the whole torture for info thing when you catch the enemy. If we just killed them its more acceptable?

We're in a society that executes people but argues that suspending prisoners' television privileges or feeding them peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch is a civil rights violation.

What do you think?

Clearly what the soldiers should have done was to travel to the villages the deadites were from and sentence their sisters, mothers and daughters to all be gang raped for the dead Taliban fighers' acts.

You know, justice Taliban-style.

This is my biggest problem with the way most are looking at this. Everyone is willing to stand in judgement of what these guys are doing, but not one of them seems to ask what events led up to this moment.

Definitely a fine display of stupidity. Apparently these guys missed that whole Abu Ghraib thing and how posing for a few mementos can come back to bite you in the ass. Its not like those photos made it on the cover of every magazine and received 24 hour coverage on every major network for months. Not only do they film it, but they upload it to the net. Idiots.

This thread has just turned into a giant pissing contest. :bag:

I just had to pick the low hanging fruit.

Could have been worse....................

You could have gone with a "urine the army" reference.

I don't believe in this sliding scale of morality. The fact that there is truly horrendous stuff in the world doesn't make the desecration of a dead body ok. It'd be like slapping your dog around and having people defend you because Johnson down the street killed his wife.

Interesting. The past three years of the Obama administration have been based PRECISELY on this concept.

I know we´ve made these sort of comparisons in the past, but do you remember how badly the Bush administration was criticized for Abu Ghraib (sp)? This is almost as bad, could you imagine the press and coverage this would receive if the Bush administration was still in place? and yes I would characterize this as horrific, you are talking about pissing on a dead body.

Total bs, cry baby conservatism. This is as bad as Abu? You really know how to fix things in your own mind, don't you?

But I know, the corporate media is really a socialist institution controlled by a Marx

It is in PR terms.

Big difference is that Abu Ghraib took place in a building, this took place out doors. So it's the government's fault in the former, but individual actions in the latter. How's that for !@#$ed-up logic?

It would be more accurate to say it's like slapping around my dog and having people defend you because my dog ate its own puppies.

While we're at it, stop slapping around my hypothetical dog, damn you!

Well the actions of the Greatest Generation have largely been white washed and are largely absent from today's history books. The punitive nature of the Pacific theater is a footnote. Things like not accepting the surrender of enemy troops and instead opting to shoot unarmed would-be-POWs and fire bombing Japanese cities, which served no purpose other than revenge for Pearl, are swept under the rug.

Given that many Americans buy-in to image of the Greatest Generation as gentleman soldiers, its easy to see why they balk at the reality of war.

PLease tell me youre NOT trying to paint the Japanese in WWII as innocent victims.
