 The Bills OL is a mess. They didn't properly assess their talent in the off season, failed to acquire enough (any?) help and now they're scrambling and grasping at straws trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The obvious bottom line: the Bills OL will stink this year. Edited by vincec

It could be worse...OBD could wait until a mere two or three weeks before the start of the regular season to determine that their OL will not contribute in a positive way to the life expectancy of their QBs - or to the offense in general.

Demetrius Bell has no business being a starting LT in this league. He is going to get Fitz killed. Although Levitre might have his limitations as a LT he is much grittier and dependable than the current left side turnstile.

One major criticism I have for Nix/Gailey is not bringing in adequate backups for the already questionable starting OTs. The thought of Wang being a backup for a regularly injured Bell makes this already vulnerable OL more vulnerable.

Levitre actually didn't do a bad job at LT his rookie season in those few games. Not saying he is the answer, or even a good stop gap player for LT. But he did look significantly better that the others we were juggleing at lt that year. That is not saying much, because that was the worst ever we have had. People rag on bell for not being a legit starting LT. but we really saw what was probably the worst oline ever after we traded peters. The LTs we had then.... man, that was brutal. way worse that we see now. Bell is definently and upgrade over what we had then, but it should be much better. It is still very sad that the unit is still so weak. 5 years ago, you would expect it to have been at least stable right now. But it continues to be our weakest spot on offense. more than qb, wr, rb, and even te.

I dont see why they cant just bring in a LT (Mckinnie) and move Levitre back to guard.

Mckinnie, Levitre, Wood, Rhinehart, Pears/ Bell. That actually has the looks of a decent o-line.. am i right?

It's been widely reported that McKinnie is WAY overweight. How is a fat, slow McKinnie going to help?

well if thats the case than theres also a former pro bowl guard out there in Brian Waters. Than you could continue to let Levitre battle it out for the LT position. Im not a big fan of relying on these street free agents that other teams have had weeks to pick up and havent done so.. but thats just how bad our o-line is right now. good job OBD

It's also been reported that he's working hard to get back in shape. Maybe getting cut lit a fire under him. Couldn't hurt to kick the tires.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, basically. The current administration has made no serious effort towards improving the offensive line, signing only Cornell Green as an actual free agent and spending no top draft picks in two years. They need to at least make an effort.

We've got more guards than we've got spots for? How is bringing in another guard going to help?

Yea, let's see how this works out.

Obviously one play is not going to tell us the whole picture. Bigger issues here are that the best hope for this line was a full offseason of minicamps and OTAs to start gelling early. The lockout killed that. I think the saving grace is that a lot of the league is in the same mess, but they are definitely grasping at straws. We'd feel a lot better if this decision were happening at the end of July rather than in mid-late August.

The one other TINY thing that I'm hoping is just that Dareus is so good that he's making everyone look like a fool in practice, and that's going to translate to games. So far he looks pretty unstoppable. Full games of him and Merriman should definitely open things up for the rest of the D.

The O-line is a complete cluster-F, this just proves it. For all those people trying to convince me that the game plan in Denver was vanilla & we'll get better, better think again. This team & the under on wins are going to be a good bet. You do all remember the firing of our OC right before the start of & all the confusion, right? It's going to happen again on the O-line, last minute scrambling.

I'm sick of watching the old man do nothing to improve the team & pocket the difference. You optomistic guys better find higher ground, the water is going to rise fast.
