Could this move benefit us in some strange way? They are going to have to overhaul the entire defense as we did. Could some players be available that might not fit? Shaun Rogers, D-Qwell Jackson, etc.? They actually have some decent defenders over there. Thoughts?

Maybe we could trade them Kelsey, since he's such a great fit in DJ's scheme.

this right here is why bad teams stay bad. didnt they just switch to the 3-4, now back to the 4-3 once they started to get to the point that they had the personnel needed? acquire talent, castoff talent, overpay in draft picks to reacquire new talent, switch back to original scheme, castoff talent

How on earth is Jauron even still in the NFL? Cleveland was 10-6 about 3 years ago with Cronnel as coach. They had a pretty deep roster, an dtraded away every good player they had to Denver (with the exception of Brady Quinn for Hillis) and NY Jets. As bad as we have been , take heart that Cleveland is much worse off and now headed in an even worse direction...The hiring of Jauron and then bringing in a washed up Jake Delhomme says it all. I cant believe anyone would hire Jauron, even to be the water boy. What a loser.

Wannstedt was a great hire for the Bills...He's a real pro. Nix must have told Wannstedt we are taking a defensive player at #3 and he can pick the guy to get him on board....

Whitner to Cleveland? Calling it here.

Kelsay & McKelvin for #1 + #2 picks? A man can dream!

i wouldnt be surprised to see him target some of "his guys" on our roster.

Whitner and poz being two possibilities. i doubt kelsey, but its possible once the cba gets wrapped up - i just think there will be too much talent in FA this year.

real question: who, if anyone, really seemed to support him after his departure? i seem to remember whitner specifically referencing that he liked the new program more, and in an indirect way knocking DJ. is that true, or a creation of my imagination?

I wouldn't mind picking up Rogers if he gets cut. When interested he's about as impactful as it gets from the inside. To get competitive in this division they have to hit big on some low investments in personnel.

I'm not in love with the idea of drafting DL very early in the first round to stock a 3-4. Not that the top talents in this draft aren't DL, they probably are. But part of the advantage of the 3-4 is that you don't need the elite athletes to play the DL and you can get excellent results using players that might not even be on the radar of a 4-3 team. Look at the Jets DL. It's Shaun Ellis and a bunch of role players. You can also take advantage of the fact that there are always more tweener DE/OLB's than there are quality DE's. You can find those type of players anywhere in the draft. It's just easier to stock a 3-4. If I were a Browns fan I would be pissed, chances are that it's going to take a few years to find the athletes for the DL to make a 4-3 front work.

I'm listening to WIP (Philly Sports radio)two days ago and they were hopeful to land Jauron as their Defensive Coordinator here for the Eagles. Had to chuckle to my self over that one. They were complaining about how the iggles D was too timid and not attacking under Sean McDermott (their former DC), and Jauron is a well-respected Defensive Mind. Man, I almost drove off the road. They don't know what they don't know.

I can't figure it. Is he going to flip to a 4-3 tampon-two with little guys getting their butts pushed all over the field by the Steelers and Ravens? Maybe he can take Kelsay, Poz and Leodis with him. What part of "suck" don't the Browns get?

McKelvin's locked up thru 2013, Kelsay thru 2014. Hoping we re-sign Poz.

But Whitner's available, probably Maybin too.

Like I said when he was our HC and Bills fans said he would never coach in the NFL again...he is much more respected around the league then by Bills fans and wont have trouble finding a job. Dont get me wrong, I didnt like him as our HC either, but honestly to get those 7-9 seasons with the crap we peddled out there every year, especially with obscene amount of major injuries to our starters, was quite an accomplishment to some degree.

It doesnt suprise me that after one year as the DB coach he is already being hired as the DC somewhere. For the record, I am still glad its not us though...lol

I can't understand why posters so easily misconstrue the differences between HC and Coordinators. Dick Jauron will probably never get a job as a Head Coach again in this league. But that doesn't mean he won't as a DC (which was obviously proven today). There are all kinds of guys that are very good coordinators that end up making crappy head coaches but are still good or decent choices as coordinators.

It happens every day in the regular workplace, too. You have a guy who is excellent at his job in his area of expertise, and so you promote him to a position of authority with greater responsibility and he fails because he is not a good overall manager. He is a specialist, and you're taking him away from the one thing he really knows that made you promote him in the first place.

doesnt jauron have a history with rogers in detroit? or did their times not line up?

also, lets talk about that jets line again -- wasnt one of their big investments kris jenkins (even if hes oft injured). also, i think with SO many teams switching to the 3-4 you will see them start to go earlier by need. having to beat out a lot of people to get that guy drives a mid rounder 5 years ago to the top 5 now. also, take into account that this makes the jets a team that targetted 2 out of 3 starting spots to big time players.

one thing that worries me about switching to 3-4 is that a unique system has unique needs. by being the only guy targeting a certain type of player theres no rush to get him. the 3-4 is not unique right now.
