Steely Dan
Brian Cushing-LB- Texans May. 10 - 5:23 pm et The Associated Press announced Monday that it will conduct a re-vote for the 2009 Defensive Player of the Year award, citing previous winner Brian Cushing's violation of the NFL's policy on PEDs. Cushing is eligible in the re-vote, but he's not likely to win. His All-Pro status is also in danger of being stripped, as the AP will re-vote for one of its outside linebacker positions. Though Jairus Byrd finished second in Defensive ROY voting in the winter, we're betting third-place finisher Clay Matthews would edge him out considering Green Bay's finish to the season. Brian Orakpo, who had 11 sacks to Matthews' 10, may also be a serious contender. Source: Matt Maiocco on Twitter Related: Brian Orakpo, Clay Matthews, Jairus Byrd GIVE IT TO BYRD!!! Doc
Clay Matthews, the other juicehead (along with probably Orakpo)? Too funny. Byrd deserves it considering he did what he did in 14 games and 11 starts, and not being 100% all season long. But again, if he doesn't win it, it's less ammo for Parker. billsfan89
Byrd is the word and he should win. Orakpo and Mathews had 11 and 10 sacks but the lead league in sacks was 17 and there were multiple people ahead of them. Orakpo finished tied with 2 others for 7th in sacks while Mathews finished tied with 3 others (Including our own Arron Schobel) for 11th in sacks. Bryd on the other hand tied for the league lead in INT's in 11 starts playing with an injury.

CardinalScotts
I would actually hope he doesn't win it.....just more to bring to the table for negotiating. He's a nice player that will even get better
RealityCheck
I hope Byrd gets it, he sure as hell earned it despite ZERO QB pressure. This year? Watch out!
albany c2
since when does ROOKIE OF THE YEAR have anything to do with how the green bay packers finished their season??? the award should automatically be given to byrd no questions asked

I agree when you play on a pathetic team, you tend to not get the credit you deserve as you would even on an average team.
CarolinaBill
based on his sound byte on NFL radio, it sounds like byrd doesnt want the replacement title, and could care less about a revote, with that said I hope he wins, but he apparently doesnt seem to care about it. Doc
Mike Greenberg just said that Cushing's failed test happened in September and the appeals process just takes a long time. Yeah and Golic basically said so what if they take away the award, Cushing was still the best rookie defender. Which is dumb because he was busted for a PED (or and agent masking a PED), which, well, enhances performance.

And if matthews wins it will be even worse. How that kid isn't dirty is beyond me. He put on 45lbs of muscle in a year and walked on??!! Reallyyyyy?? Through hard work and diet??? Except when it comes to ROY voting. Not unusual for pathetic teams to win that one...course they have the higher picks due to their patheticness.
