Dwan Edwards signs w/ Bills

So, in other words, Shefter was right the whole time. He tweeted that Edwards reached an AGREEMENT (notice the word signed didn't appear in the tweet). Said the Bills had a big day. There's a reason Shefter does what he does. It looks like he was right.

Kudos to Shefter. Kudos to the Bills, the Ravens fans seemed to really like Edwards. We finally have a couple of new serviceable toys to play with.

So can we use the bat phone to get JW's confirmation at this late hour?

He still shows up as online, but I'm going to guess the next thing we see from JW is a story crossing the wire. Priorities.

Amusingly, the top site on my Google search of your name and Edwards' is ... this thread.

And the second one is a thread on the bb.com board referring to your "no deal done yet" posts here.

It's dated, but in case anyone's interested here's the draft write-up of him from Nolan Nawrocki's PFW Draft Guide in 2004:

Positives:

Good initial quickness. Flashes burst to penetrate. Has a thick frame and good lower-body strength. Can play with leverage and hold the point. Wide frame to control gaps. Strong hands to shred. Keeps head up to locate ball. Good short-area quickness. Competitive, durable and tough. Has agility, balance, and can change direction. Good football intelligence and feel for blocking schemes. Can collapse the pocket with a bull rush. Flashes quick hands in pass rush. Good effort and motor. Excellent character. Not vocal, leads by example. Production improved each year. Got bigger and stronger each year.

Negatives:

Tends to play high and loses leverage. Not sudden or explosive. Not a consistently dominant player. Good, not great, upper-body strength. Steady but not overpowering. Needs to further develop as a pass rusher. Flashes quick hands but doesn't put two moves together consistently.

Summary:

Not a big-time, flashy guy but his combination of size, strength, and quickness definitely catch your attention. May never be a premier player with big numbers, but his lower-body strength, ability to control gaps and durability will take him off the board by the end of the second round.

Thanks for posting, HB. And Nawrocki was right. Edwards was taken in the 2nd round, 51st overall.

Good solid signings. Love the Davis pickup. Edwards pickup is worth it just for the Baltimore D 'tude. Still don't see him as anything but a rotational player - but solid signing nevertheless.

Pat Moran only plays journalist.

PTR

Absolutely, one of the most annoying fake "journalists" out there. Constantly whining like a 2-year old, all he does is hit the refresh button on theredzone.org and profootballtalk.com and posts it to his site as "breaking news" under his name.

Guy has negative credibility in my books.

So, he's a Bill, just not signed yet??

$18mil?? Wow. Probably back-loaded with a lot of incentives..

NIIIICE!!

If i had to guess, it would be just the opposite. Probably a lot of money in the form of roster bonuses this year to get the cash on the books in an uncapped year.

The fact that Ravens reporters and fans (see some of the inane comments on PFT and other places) were in such denial about this signing shows how much they did not want to lose him.

On that alone I consider this a great signing because it seems like they really valued this guy.

Cash2Cap prohibits back-loading.

Dwan Edwards | DT Complete player profile

Full Name: Dwan Sedaine Edwards

Born: May 16, 1981

Billings, MT

Height: 6-3

Weight: 290 lbs.

Age: 28

Pos: DT

Experience: 7 years

College: Oregon State

Drafted: Year:2004 Round:2 Pick:19, Ravens

Edwards had his most productive season of his six-year career for the Ravens' defense. He is a high-effort player who can contribute to the Ravens' multiple fronts as an interior lineman as well as defensive end. While he isn't powerful enough at the point to handle the nose, he is very resilient and battles to the whistle. He is a good athlete who fits best as an end in Baltimore's 3-4 defensive schemes. Edwards has improved his hand usage at the point of attack shedding blockers better than in previous seasons. Edwards continues to struggle as a pass-rusher and needs to continue to develop more creative moves and counters to contribute in this area. Edwards has made marked improvements over the past two seasons and has been a consistent performer for the Ravens.

Article from the Baltimore Sun this morning, refreshing to find a FA that actually seems genuine about wanting to come to Buffalo. Bannon is a great guy, very down to earth. Saw him around at a bunch of Baltimore bars, the first time I met him, he was so excited to talk about Buffalo. He loved playing for us. I can imagine what Edwards is saying is true.

A Defensive End in a 3-4 is not usually a Bruce Smith...they are usually just small defensive tackles...so sixty tackles and one or two sacks is a solid 3-4 end...you want sacks in the nines and tens you look to your OLB's in that style of defense

Then the Bills better start signing some OLBs ASAP because once Schobel retires, I don't see anyone on the roster at any position who can get 9 or 10 sacks.
