Back to goodells comment you can look at it 2 ways.

 

 

1. Posivitive. He still considers buffalo salvagable and viable in the nfl juggernaut. Enough so to try to lobby for improvements or a new venue.

 

 

2. Negative. He know it is unlikely to happen and he is planting the seeds to blame a relocation on the failure to get shiny new toys funded

One of Goodell's main responsibilities is to increase league revenue. And the best way to accomplish this remains for franchises to have new stadiums which typically charge more for tickets and include more high priced luxury boxes.

 

Over the past 15 years, 20 teams have constructed new stadiums. Additionally, KC, CHI, and GB have made huge renovations to existing parks. That's nearly 3/4 of the NFL with new or significantly upgraded homes.

The commissioner is responsible for the league's health, not individual franchises like Buffalo. He'll step up the pressure on teams like SD, OAK, SF, and BUF to build new homes as a result. Problem is, we all know neither the state or local government have the funding to assist Buffalo. Unless the next owner is willing to spend their own money on a field (in addition to the team purchase price) I can't see the team remaining in WNY.

I thought gate revenues are split and luxury box revenue goes directly to each owner. Since we're full, how does a new stadium help owners... unless they raise prices significantly.

Ticket prices are split 60/40 between home and away teams. Thus, opposing (away) teams have an interest in the home team's ticket prices. It's a big difference if Buffalo plays in the new Giants stadium versus the Jets playing in Buffalo.

 

Owners want the highest revenues, and there's a battle brewing between some of the big market guys like Jones and small teams like Buffalo. Goodell needs to do something fairly quick on this front and revenue sharing isn't enough.

The NFL has put the Super Bowl into cold-weather cities before...Detroit (twice), Minneapolis and soon Indianapolis. New York City is bidding for one. Lately they have been using the Super Bowl as a carrot for teams looking to build new stadiums. Tell me any of those cities, outside of NYC, offer anything better than Niagara Falls? It's entirely possible to get one Super Bowl there. Niagara Falls is a world-famous landmark with hotels, casinos and attractions in place. They won't put it in Buffalo.

why the big deal of hosting a super bowl? do not get it! i want the long term future of the bills secured in buffalo. i think , realistically that happens due to the ralph, and if need be, improvements to it. who gives a sh-t about an elitist crowd, its really football's version amateur hour. i think football essentially ends with the conference championship games(if the bills arent in the super bowl).

have your lovefest with Chalkie all you, but he won't address in any real way the traffic getting in and out of the ralph. any major sporting event ive ever been to poses some kind of wait getting in and out of the stadium. he acts a stadium in downtown in NF would be unique in that regard

i do not think it is realistic to think of the area getting a new stadium in niagara falls, or anywhere. as an earlier poster said, money will, and should, be poured into the ralph . its there and seems to have the infrastructure to be able to sustain the upgrades. any "pie in the sky" stadium building would happen on the buffalo waterfront. again, it is reality, but i respect other's right to speculate.

With the current stadium, you have SW Blvd. right there, Abbott with at least four lanes leaving the stadium, Big Tree... Milestrip gets you a clear shot to either route 5 or 219. How many four lanes of traffic can Niagara Falls have on residentials? Sounds a lot like War Memorial Stadium or Memorial Stadium that used to be in Baltimore.

 

And they do a little digging in Niagara Falls and start uncovering some green goo that Occidental, Hooker Chemical et al. decided to bury at one point and not tell anyone. I suppose you can have tailgating there, just call it "Isotope Alley" and give everyone a free HazMat suit.

you're desperation is making you silly now. when they were burying stuff in love canal -- no where near the falls -- dt nf was a vibrant business/tourist area. no way anything was buried there.

they have a stated agenda to market the bills to a wider audience. you know they wont lose fans from buffalo, and by changing name the slightly and moving the location next to canada and in the heart of a tourist area, i think theyd be all for it.

Understood. My point being: We do not need a new stadium to raise ticket prices. And if the arguement is for better luxury boxes, it gets the other owners nothing. So just raise our ticket prices and leave us be. That city, state and team is not going to build a new stadium. Period.

It is unlikely stimulus money would be used to build a domed stadium in Buffalo; however, stimulus money can be used for infrastructure projects that would complement a stadium being built. This would entail improving the surrounding highways, a demolition of old buildings. This would create local jobs which WNY needs. Then with a mix of private and state funds you could build a dome stadium which could be used for Bills Football, Concert promotions, state championships, trade shows and other stuff. If the stadium is right near the Falls you have a an established tourist area with the capacity to draw in events. This could be the spark the Buffalo area needs to reinvent itself. As many have already said, it makes too much sense.
