With John Guy gone, and Nix as GM, I'm feeling much more optimistic about the future of the Bills. Either way, I feel that this organization is indeed getting a breath of fresh air. Amen to that. Prior to joining the Chiefs coaching staff, Modkins spent six seasons tutoring both the running backs (2003-07) and the defensive backs (2002) under Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech’s rushing attack thrived under the tutelage of Modkins as the Yellow Jackets led the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing offense in 2007, totaling 2,591 yards (199.3 ypg.) and 28 rushing TDs. Georgia Tech boasted the ACC’s leading rusher three times (2003, 2006-07) during Modkins’ tenure as running backs coach. Modkins also played a pivotal role in the development of two-time All-ACC RB T.J. Daniels, a former walk-on who concluded his career as the fourth-leading rusher in Georgia Tech history. In 2002, serving as defensive backs coach, Modkins coached Tech’s only first-team All-ACC honoree in S Jeremy Muyres. While at Georgia Tech, Modkins saw the Yellow Jackets enjoy six straight winning seasons, including a 9-3 regular season mark in 2006 and an appearance against Wake Forest in the ACC Championship Game. Modkins helped Georgia Tech reach a bowl game in each of his six seasons as an assistant. Modkins enjoyed a successful four-year tenure as cornerbacks coach at New Mexico (1998-01). From 2000-01, the Lobo’s defense ranked among the top 20 nationally in total defense, yielding a paltry 309.4 yards per game in 2000 and 310.8 yards per game in 2001. The Lobos intercepted 15 passes in each of those campaigns. Under Modkins’ direction, New Mexico also saw their opponents’ passing yardage decline each year from ‘98-00. Modkins gained a taste of NFL coaching experience in the summer of ‘99, serving an NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Dallas Cowboys. It was that summer that Modkins gained his initial experience working under Gailey, as Gailey was Dallas’ head coach at the time. Modkins began his collegiate coaching career in ‘95 at his alma mater TCU. He totaled three seasons with the Horned Frogs (’95-97), serving as a graduate assistant (’95) and coaching both the secondary (’96) and tight ends (’97) under head coach Pat Sullivan. He enjoyed a successful playing career at TCU (’89-92). A three-year starter at running back, Modkins led the Horned Frogs in rushing three-straight seasons (’90-92). He concluded his career ranked third on TCU’s all-time rushing list with 2,763 yards and was twice named second-team All-Southwest Conference. We weren't going to attract any big name coordinators when Gailey came out and basically said he's in control of the offense. Yep. Gailey will be calling the offense, but he's worked with him before and trusts him. The proof will be in the pudding, fellas. Settle down, and let time tell us the story. It's ridiculous to be down on guys that no one has any real clue on how they will translate into the pro game. This guy's bio sounds great in terms of developing a strong running game; which is something we could certainly use as we maximize our strength and search for a QB that can lead this team out of the doldrums. If you want to talk about ridiculous, I think anyone that salivated over Brian Schottenheimer was a tad foolish. Talk about not being proven as a head coach. Let's wait and see who the replacement for Guy will be, and if Modrak will still be sticking around. Either way, I feel that this organization is indeed getting a breath of fresh air. Agree. AZ had the 28th ranked run offense in the league last year. i thought its russ grimm whos ass.head-coach/running game coordinator there? Yep. And many wanted Grimm as HC. A manager during practices and a guy that can keep the other coaches on the same page as Gailey. Modkins will no doubt have Gaileys best intrest at heart, since Gailey basically gave him every opportunity he has had since leaving New Mexico. If Gailey/Nix go out and can get a strong D Cord, then i am ok with this. Let Gailey call the plays on Sunday for the O, and manage the clock. Let the DCord run the defense. Not sure if this is to inspire hope, or if it is a hire that Gailey has been familiar with in the past. Az is built to pass and they pass a lot. Not fair to rank his skill and knowledge on one stat. Lets give the guy a chance. He is not developing the games plan or calling the plays on game day. Gailey is handling the offense, this guy will assist. Maybe, ... just maybe, he is a good coach? Modkins initially will be a figure head with on the job training. He has a solid collegiate record. That 28th ranking could have been partially because they throw much more than they run because they have so much talent in the passing game. Kinda like The Bills' relatively high ranking in pass defense was to some extent just a reflection of how putrid they were against the run. I like the 15 TD's they picked up on the ground. Some of that is the D fearing that Warner can actually throw on you in the red zone but still. Looks respectable.
