Met some of my Russian colleagues at a work event today and of course Putins’ war in Ukraine came up. They said no one in Russia supports this war unless you are an oligarch who will benefit. They said - Putin and his Oligarchs stole our country and most of the country is in poverty. They warned us - keep voting for Trump and kissing Elon’s ass - they want the same thing here in the US. Of course those on the left know that - it’s the MAGA nutters who have no clue what’s coming.

With all the hue and cry over our wide receivers there has been limited mention of our running back room. I think it is really good. Cook looked pretty elite last year, especially down the stretch. I thought Ty Johnson was a helluva addition and was a very valuable contributor - has size and speed. And I am so excited about Davis, who I think will bring a lot to the table receiving and running - as well as a can of whoopass. Would not shock me if Gore sneaks on the roster and contributes as well - his old man will kill him if he doesn't! So much better than when we had Singletary and a bag of balls. Loved Singletary, but he was a little small and a little slow. This group is really talented.

To get this out of the way: this isn't me claiming that I have any special juice about what's going in the war room. It also isn't an absolute path. If a player who has been forecasted in the top 10-15 is there for the taking in the 20s, I am even for a (reasonable) trade up. If Jared Verse, Brian Thomas or Adonai Mitchell (make your pick of who you think WR4 in the draft is) or whoever you think is an instant game wrecker, you take them. However, as is often the case, I am seeing a bit of a glut around pick 20 on most mocks and Big Boards where plays transition from Week 1 Gamechanger to Week 1 Effective Starter. The truth is, with Beane at work, I don't think that there are any massive glaring immediate needs on the roster: Curtis Samuel can play outside enough that it's not critically dire. Epenesa, Groot and Miller are (in theory) a recent starting DE rotation. They have plenty of depth at LB, have theoretical starters in the secondary, the O-line is mostly intact, RB room is pretty full, and TE doesn't need more reinforcement. Basically, while I think there are several places where the Bills could upgrade, there is at least a theoretical veteran that a rookie would need to take the job from. However, a lot of those contracts are short term, set to expire by 2026 and the team is already over the cap for 2025. If we can't get a gamewrecker, would we say no to another 3rd or 4th round pick if Beane lets someone trade in from the back end?

The bills only traded back because they thought their guy would be available at 2.01. That tells me they want to take a guy that most people didn't mock in the first round. So who could that be ? Is it possible the bills loved a guy like Ricky Pearsall, and thought no way someone would take him in the first? What if the bills shot themselves in the foot? Unless the bills trade down again, why risk losing out on your guy just to gain a better draft position in round 3?

I read many posts saying this team has taken a step back and truth is we have not. Lets break it down. Offense: QB = Same RB = Same WR = Improved. Samuel IS an upgrade over Davis OL = Same/ slightly improved Morse was old, and light in the butt. McGovern is younger and has played center and been prepping for this moment TE = Improved. Kincaid now has a year of experience and will hit the weight room OC = improved. I cant wait to see his own system implemented So the offense is slightly improved. Defense: DL = Same to slightly improved. We are all praying Von improves, and so far I feel we have improved our depth. We need to increase pass rush through the draft. LB = Improved. We will get Milano back and our other LB's greatly stepped up CB: = Slightly Improved. Douglas now has time in our system and a full offseason to get it down. Benford has another year and hopefully the new DB coach can help Elam Safety: = Slightly improved. This is the one position I expect hysterical wailing and gnashing of teeth on, but Hyde and Poyer were showing their age badly last year. I say the two new starters just have to be smart (keep your damn head and eyes up Rapp!) and be in the right position at the right time and tackle. Defense = Same to slightly improved Do we still need WR, esp. Diggs replacement and an upgrade, yes. Do we still need to use draft picks on the Defense, Absolutely. We are always looking to improve, but we are no where near as bad off as some fans, and media, want to make it out to be.
